I just got Jacob Teitelbaum, M.D.,'s new book and his discussion on hypothyroidism really hit home. I'm going to ask my PCP about a trial of thyroid med. In the book, Teitelbaum said that over 47 percent of his fibromyalgia patients have a low thyroid and that 83 percent of these patients have improved by taking a low dose of thyroid hormone. The symptoms are so similar- fatigue, pain, weight gain, brain fog, intolerance to cold, constipation. He goes into great detail about doctors being undertrained in this area and what they need to know. I actually made copies of the pages and mailed them to my PCP. If it can help even a little I'll be happy!
