Recently my pain doctor put me on Actiq, which is a fentanyl sucker. It works so well and without all the side effects of the oxy's. My insurance paid for it one time. I went to refill it and they refused to refill. When the doctor's office called and asked why, they said that it was cancer pain only. I have never heard such a thing. Now I have never had cancer so I can't personally say, but my father has cancer and takes fentanyl, as do I, in patch form. That mode of medicating is fine for us, but the sucker which handles breakthrough pain is not covered because it is designated only for cancer pain. What is up with that. Finally, I find something that helps me cope and they refuse to allow it. Has anybody else had this problem with their insurance companies, refusing doctor's orders regarding medication?
