    Hello Everyone,
I'm concerned that the Johns Hopkins pain management Drs on Friday will not Rx opioids. I've been in severe pain, my activities are very limited!!!!!!!

Reasons I cannot take antidepressants for pain (Cymbalta, Elavil, Flexeril, Nortriptyline, Doxepin): it induces a bipolar mania where I become agitated, angry, and violent. My psychiatrist won't even let me take antidepressants.

I cannot take Lyrica, it makes me unable to walk and fall at only 25 mg. Neurontin causes panic attacks.

I've been on opioids before and I have never abused them. They will have my records at hopkins.

Still afraid I won't get pain relief.

Any ideas to get the opiods that I need?
    Thank you.

Hey -is this the first time you have been to a pain specialist? Cause most of them, the way I understand are suppose to know that opoids are sometimes the only way to get the pain under control. And they are suppose to be the experts with the pain meds.I have gone to a pain specialist -but the it was not possible anymore(too far) so I just went back to my gen. practitioner and she prescibes my drugs. (opoids) But the pain managment already had me on opoids. They are usually anesthesiaologist, and have studied the effects of these drugs. I wish you the best. Let us know how you turn out. You desearve to have the best pain managment you can get.

I just posted this on another thread. I can not take SSNRI's as they make me "manic like". My doctor prescribed Lamectal which is a mood stabilizer without all the side effects. It not only blocks the mania but also helps your antidepressant work.

When I went off my Zoloft, I was in horrific pain which eventually abated when I went back on. I had been off of it before thie DD and did not get the pain.

Also mirapex has helped not only my restless legs syndrome but also my FM pain.

Just something you might want to mention to the doctors as each of us may react differently to the same medication.

Let us know how your appointment goes.

Well, I have been to pain mngt. drs. Two thought I was faking it. I have records from my rheumy faxed to Hopkins to proove it.

Hopkins can call my psychiatrist to proove I become manic on antidepressants. Lamictal makes me nervous. No mood stabilizer combats the mania!

I just saw a young pain mngt dr. He referred me to Hopkins b/c I have a hard case. (I need someone with lots of experience). There are only 2 pain mngt drs in my county!

Any other suggestions on how to get the opoids?

    Looking for pain relief,

Its really getting scary out there. Do you have a primary care doc??? After losing my doc I did find one who will give meds he's family pratice.

It seems to be hit and miss.

Hope you get some releif and some meds.
