I am new here...this is second post...but I read everything I can on the board! I feel like I'm learning so much!

I do not have a diagnosis yet, the medical profession has proclaimed me healthy....with depression of course...because all my bloodwork has come back NORMAL. UGH! Today's bloodwork was all hormone related....so we will see what comes of this...I think they are grasping at straws now.

My question is related to fevers. I've seen several previous posts about low grade fevers in the afternoon. Well that is ALL ME! My temp usually runs low 97ish...but last two months I have woken up with a 98.2...that goes up to around 99.5 by midafternoon. Tylenol or Excedrin does not take it down. The doctors don't seem concerned...saying that it is not high enough to even be classified as a real fever...Well let me tell you, I feel sick when it happens...tired/fatigued/headachey....It's definitely real to me.

Does anyone have any experience with this? What helps? Should I even be trying to take it down?
Anyone know of any mysterious thing that causes this? I am going crazy trying to figure out what to do and my doctor thinks I am just plain crazy....lol.

    Thanks for any advice!!!

I'm new to all this.I have had that low grade fever most of my life starting as a child, My temp also runs a little low normally so when it goes up to 99 I really feel it, but doctors are not interested. Is this Fibromyalgia?

i have been dx with FM and CFS ....i have a low body temp normally, too...like 95.6 and when it is 'normal' 98.6, i feel sick! it always happens when i overdo it....i notice that it is better when i am on good pain relief...why? don't have a clue...

i wonder if we did a poll on low normal temp. what we would find? i have heard lots of comments on lo grade fever here ....

    bye!

HI 5417GIRL.... it is my understanding that constant low grade body temps can be related to low functioning thyroid.. or "hypothyroidism". So then when you do get a temp of 98.6 or 99.0 you really feel it.

That is what happens to me... sometimes I would chart my temp for weeks at a time and in the late afternoor or early evening my temp would go up to 99.4 to 99.8 and I would have red burning eyes and feel extra achey all over.

Low grade temps are also very common with FM or CFS too. You need to see a doctor like a rheumatologist to have him check your body for tender points.

Also read the full description of all the symptoms of FM on this site... that would be helpful for you. But do not give up till you find a doctor tht gives you a diagnosis.

Ultimately you are the best judge of how you feel.. YOU know your body better than anyone else... SO DO NOT LET THE DOCTORS TELL YOU IT IS ALL IN YOUR HEAD!!

KEEP PRESSING IN UNTIL YOU GET ANSWERS!! BLESSINGS TO YOU... CAROLK

red burning eyes...I have that same thing in the afternoons when my temp goes up...(along with that achey flu feeling)

They have checked my thyroid (several times over the past few years)...seems my symptoms keep recurring and they keep thinking thyroid...But Nope...apparently that's not it....

I was thinking about seeking out a rheumatogist....but I feel weird.....My doctor and an infectious disease doctor think I am crazy to complain about a fever under 100....And with the absence of any abnormal bloodwork....they basically dismiss me. I know I am the patient...but I am almost scared to call a rheum. for fear of what they will think...or say....or imply.
Silly I know...I will keep pressing on.
    Thanks for the advice.

I also run below 98.6. Believe it or not when I mentioned to the MD that I ran a 102.5 for 4 days and had trouble keeping it down without round-the-clock Motrin and Tylenol, he didn't seem that concerned about it and didn't konw where it came from.

He's diagnosed me with (I'm not sure what you have but I'm going to call it) Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Anyway, I strongly feel that it is Chronic Epstein Barr Virus. One NP and one MD say it's an old infection. I had mono 11 years ago and know two of the tests will be positive for life. But they're not doing titers to get the numbers.

So...how can they say I have FM or CFS without at least totally ruling our CEBV?

I got sick last Feb. 17th at 9:30. I thought i just had a bad cold but after 7 days something did not feel right. After 6 months of crying to my drs. about my fevers and fatigue I took matters in to my own hands. I asked for every MRI , CT scan and ultrasoudn then I saw every specialist. I begged for bloodwork-6 inches thick of paperwork now and they all wore fine. Most drs. told me that 100 is not a fever ..give me a break. My temp use to be 97.8 before I got sick. They drove me crazy and made me feel like I was depressed! Like depression gives you fevers! Most drs. don't believe in CFS which is part of the problem. The first 9 months I had the fever everyday and I felt horrible now they run in cycles. I got them for 10 days inthe beginning of every month. Nothing brings them down so I just go with it..I spend most of those days in bed.. I actually just started my cyle the other day. I am getting treatment at the FFC but they can't really explain the fever cycles. I am taking to many vitamins and herbs it is definitely better then last year but not gone. I think if my fevers went away I definitely could learn to live with just the fatigue. Feves make you feel 10 times worse!

My advice is not to listen to your drs. they made me feel worse. I would see a a non traditional dr. or just really read everything on this site and try different things out. I knew someone that had CFS with fevers and she was sick for close to 4-5 yrs. Her fevers went away after 2 years though. I am praying that happens to me.

By happy you found this boards!
