Hi. I just now joined and I am seeking information. I had to quit school, and take courses online because I have been getting severe allergies to just about everything on this planet. I sneeze, my eyes water, then I get hives like sunburnt skin, which itches and burns really bad. The worst part is that I seem to sleep all the time. Can anyone tell me what kind of allergy this is? Thanks.

This sounds just awful. You have classic allergy symptoms, but it is impossible to say what you are allergic to. You really should see a doctor and an allergist. This is really affecting your quality of life in a big way.
Have you had allergies before? Did something tragic happen in your life?
There are rare cases where people exhibit allergy symptoms, but it is psychological, not really allergies. Please, I'm not a nut, lol! It's just a thought!!! Good luck!!!

Yes. Something did happen. My mom passed away a year ago in August. We were very close. I started getting sick right after she went. I got this rash on my shoulder the day after her funeral. Now, I seem to get sick every time I leave the house. I plan on seeing an allergist because I can't work like this. I used to work but I'd come home sick and watery-eyed, and now I have these hives and I'm extremely uncomfortable. Thank you for the advice.

Yes, go see a doctor. I am so sorry about what you have been though. Please let me know how you are and what you find out, really. I will keep you in my thoughts!

Thank you. You are so kind. I'm glad I found this message board. I didn't know what was happening to me. I would go to work, get really weak and tired, and then my eyes would start to water. I looked like I was crying all the time. My doctor has moved his office, and on Monday, I am going to find out where he is and make an appointment. I can't keep getting sick like this. I need to find out what's wrong and why I keep getting allergic to everything. I'm like a hermit, and my friends think it's because I've given up or something. I know it has something to do with losing my mom,but not in the way they think.I love my mom and I miss her terribly but I'm not giving up! I'm like her. She never gave up. But this is different. I'm allergic to something, and the only way I seem to get better is if I stay home!

I checked to see how you are. Sounds like you will get the help and answers you need. I am allergic and sensitive to many things too. I feel for you and will continue to keep an eye on how you are. I can honestly say too, that when I am down things affect me more. I really hope you get back on track fast! ~Stacey

Thank you Stacy. My name is Nadyne. Tomorrow morning, I am going to find out where my doctor is. I had another setback and I slept all day. Perhaps he can refer me to a specialist & I can find out what's wrong. Extreme heat and cold always makes it worse for me. When I had to go to work, I had to stand at the bus stop where it was cold, and I always ended up sick with congestion. I'm glad I found this message board. I was looking for medical help and I saw the symptoms listed and they were like mine. As soon as I can find my doctor and his office,(they moved his whole office, and tore down the building he was at, and he's a senior doctor who's in charge of all these other doctors, you have to go thru them to see him, it's a long process)and get a diagnosis I will post a message to you. How long have you had your allergies? And what did the doctor say? I hope you don't mind my asking.

It's good to hear from you. I have had allergies since I was about 11.(got so bad I would wheeze and lose my voice) I am 31 now. I have grown out of alot of my troubles, but then came new ones.
I used to miss school because like you, my symptoms would make me weak, headachey, tired and I would be a mess. I used to cough and wheeze and sneeze in class, like I was so sensitive to all kinds of things. I took allergy meds as a teen and got better for several years.
Now with fibromyalgia and lots of other things I am sensitive to odors, sounds, lighting and other stuff. (that's what I call my "sensitivities" due to fibro).
I still suffer seasonal allergies due to pollen and ragweed.
I stay inside with the house closed and I buy the good A/C filters that have the microfiltration. I keep my home very clean too. I do not take antihistamines, because the side effects really get me, but occasionally I will take a Claritin.
I guess I covered things OK. Oh, I am also allergic to cats, rabbits and some dogs.
Please feel free to ask if I can help you any more.
Take care and indulge yourself in something yummy today, like cocoa or ice cream.

Those are exactly MY symptoms!!!!I can't stand bright lights or strong odors! I thought it was nerves, but do you think it could be the allergies causing it, too? My symptoms went away for several years. Then they started coming back when Mom got sick, then when she died, they really got bad! Like you, I was (and am) always sneezing, wheezing and coughing. Oh today, I found my doctor, but he isn't seeing anyone! They wanted me to see the med students that they have there in his office,so that they could refer me to a specialist, and I said forget it, I'll refer myself. It's my body system and I know something is wrong, why else is it reacting so strongly? So I made an appointment with an allergist downtown, for 2:30 pm tomorrow. I'll get some answers one way or another! I used to be able to do so many things, like go for a ride and get ice cream, and now I'm too sick to even go to the post office! And I'm always so tired! I sleep every chance I get and still I'm tired! I hope you get better from your allergies and fibro. It's awful to be sick this way, isn't it? God Bless you, and I'll let you know how my appointment goes. And thank you for writing to me.

I have had all kinds of allergies in my life, to almost everything, for me watery eyes, sneezing, these type of symptoms, were to pollins, from trees, grass, weeds, hay ect.
The hives i have had have been from food allergy severe ones. I know they burn like crazy my mom used to reverse the vacume cleaner and blow air on me for hours. Fatigue is always present, and it is not like a regular kind of tired, you just have to sleep. Recently i developped new allergies, however i would not have guessed my symptoms were allergies.(food intolerances).Food would not go through my system,it was as if there was a bar in my mid section cutting passage way for food. I also had intestinal problems, lots of bleeding, from hemrroids, that could no longer be controlled, heartburn, a spaced out feeling and again that fatigue. I went to see an Enviromental Specialist.(Not many around) after several hours of testing, and not regular allergy scratch tests but by injections. Well it ended up the heartburn was caused by allergy to wheat the closing down of digestive system was allergie to peanuts, (I was eating peanut butter everyday).
the intestinal problems were from dairy products, and they found candida, which means cannot eat sugar yeast, anything that ferments, vinager, wine, beer. I was also allergic to eggs, cauliflower, soya, broccili. Stopped eating these and all symptoms went away nearly immediately. But different people have different symptoms for the same food.
I have a fatal allergy to fish, a very small amount causes hives and could potentially kill me. I could go on with other allergy symptoms i have had, to different things, but I guess My advice is find an enviromental specialist. He will find your allergy.

I saw an allergist a week ago. She ruled out any foods that I was eating (she did a skin test where they prick your skin and put drops that contain food allergens on your skin). But I still itch like mad. It's driving me crazy. And I know what you mean about sleep. I have to sleep, that's all there is to it! It's a funny kind of tired, you know? Not the kind you get after doing work, but a sick kind of tired. My parents had some of the symptoms you describe. I hope you get better from your allergies. I was thinking of seeing one of those environmental allergists but I don't think they have any where I live. I don't know where to look for one.

    Hi again,
well i have also had the scratch tests done several times, but the enviromental specialist testing totally different. when they inject you with whatever they are testing for, you actually experience the same symptom that food is causing you. So its not a scratch that swells, but your body reacts as if you were eating that food, or whatever they are testing for. But thats not all the enviromental specialist does, but i am not sure about the rest, but things like allergies people have because of something in building ect. My mother died 18 months ago also, which was about a few months after the syptoms appeared, she had cancer so it was very stressful as she suffered alot, and we cared for her at home. Another thing is May 2002 is when i was tested, by October i was off work from burnout, complete exhaustion, i am still not back to work. However I find now on a rotation schedule I can start eating some things again. I guess i am saying stress can play a big part in this picture. If you want I can get a fax number for this Dr. and maybe, you could find out if there is one who is close to you, I know he is one of the first in his field and gives confrences all over the world.

Yes please do! I know I get awful sick every time I leave the house. I'm okay when I leave the house, then I come back teary-eyed, itching and nauseated. I think it's something in the air causing these allergies, and if I can just get the testing done and find out what is wrong with me maybe they can give me some medication to alleviate these awful itches at least. Thank you so much, I really appreciate this.

Plus I'm awful sorry about what you've been thru. I lost my Mom to diabetes a year ago in August. The stress is awful, I know. I will keep you in my thoughts. Lots of hugggs(((((()))))))))))).

Glad you're back I was worrying!
So far nothing has been found to explain what you are going through. Bless your heart! I realy hope you get answers soon. You never told me if you are on any new meds.
Reason I ask it that we discussed your troubles being from emotional trauma, death of your Mom. You have had allergy testing done which showed nothing. Are you on anything enw you forgot to mention? I took Plaquenil for arthritis for a while and I was itchy to the point I nearly crawled out of my skin. Well ,just a thought.
I am here if you need me, please keep in touch. Love, Stacey

I'm not on any medications. I am taking vitamins but I don't think they are the problem. I've gone over everything I can think of and I can't seem to find out what's causing all of these allergies. It probably IS emotional. I really miss my mom, plus this online class that I am taking, the people there are so rude and insulting, they insulted me and my upbringing something awful, just because I told them that it was wrong to take money and stuff that doesn't belong to them (They put me in an ethics class). On Saturday night, they actually put me down with some awful remarks about my parents, and I cried all that night. Then I emailed the teacher and told her that I had quit. And my itches have flared up again, plus the texture of my hair has changed and it feels like rope. I wouldn't doubt it if these allergies were caused by emotional upset. Maybe if I turned off all my feelings and got to be like Mr. Spock (my favorite character in Star Trek) I wouldn't get anymore allergies....

OK, now, remember it's me, Stacey. I am not going to judge you, so relax with me.
Since you are not on any meds I real think that this IS psychological (that was my first thought, remember?). Your mind is trying to deal with stress and
loss of your mother and it may be taking it's toll on your body, allergy symptoms. You say you are usually OK at home, but when you leave you get sick. (people have this happen and when it isn't dealt with they become agoraphobic and they don't leave the house, thoug usually the anxiety manifests itself with panic and nervousness. it is not unheard of for it to manifest as allergy symptoms though)
You mention people treating you badly because you have morals and ethics, sound like they have the problem.
I have cut myself off from much of the world any more.
I got tired of being used and abused by people.
I always took care of everyone who came to me, but they never treated me as good as I treated them. I won't compromise my beliefs or ehtics just to please others any more.
The world can and often is a very ugly place. But there is good out there to be found, I try to look for it.
I try and treat others with respect and compassion, but I don't see many others acting this way.
I wish you had someone else to comfort you. There isn't much I can do like this but to let you know I understand what you are saying and that I am here. have been since you first posted, now haven't I? Now you take a deep breath and do something you enjoy. Something just for yourself!
I will check back here frequently to see if you need me.~Love, Stacey

    Hi again,

I got the Dr's name and fax number; its Dr. John Molot, his fax is 1-613-521-5443, When you fax him explain your situation, he may even be able to tell you something. I tell him " every time I think of you Dr.,I pray for you,",he looked at me not understanding, "I say Lord, he is the most generous and compassionate Dr. I have ever met, please bless him." and he truly is. So good luck with this avenue. let me know how it goes. You were talking about taking vitamins. Well (i told you I have a fatal allergy to fish)i was into a health food store to buy calcium/magnesium, there were so many kinds i asked for advice, this person was great and exlained that most, vitamen D was taken from fish, and cal/mag contains vitamin D. She suggested even taking a break from vitamins, once in a while, give the body a break. So I bought a vitamin that did not derive its vitamin d from fish. There is really no way to know except to call manufacturer. Don't get discouraged there is going to be answer, sometimes takes time to find. Also what are you taking for the itch? I take claratin liquid, for skin itch,
its the best i have ever used, actually took the itch away and the hives didn't return that time they had appeared, for what i thought was no reason. Keep going you'll eventually find a way that will rid you of it.

Stacy, you are the first person that has treated me with respect since this whole thing has happened. You don't know how much this means to me. People have done everything from blaming me to shunning me entirely. I don't wonder that maybe my allergies are because my body is reacting to all of this. I've shut myself off from the world, too. It's gotten so that I can't even answer the phone. I don't think I have agoraphobia, as I'm not scared to go out or anything like that. Maybe some parts of me dread it, but I don't think I'm really afraid. I mean I can go out whenever I want, and I do love to shop, it's just that I haven't felt like much of anything since Mom passed away. People are rude, aren't they? Mom used to say it's because they were constipated...That could be it! Anyway, thank you for writing me!((((((((HUGS))))))))))
