Wanted to say thanks for the post on how often you should take Neurontin. I just started on it at low dosage of 300mg at night which doesn't do much so I tried it during the day once and it did make me dizzy but it's good to know that would wear off because I want to have my doc increase it on next visit so I can get some relief from bad nerve pain all day long.

Anyway to get to my question....does anyone get other side effects like vivid dreams or nightmares? Could this be just something that will wear off too? I also take Mirapex for restless leg syn. at bedtime which used to give me dreams when I first started it so maybe the combination is giving me these nightmares which wake me once or twice a night and then I don't get good sleep.
    Thanks for your help!

Achy, I occasionally have very vivid dreams. I've noticed when I take any melatonin with the Neurontin, I can get these dreams. One time I even dreamed that I was trying to wake myself up -- which I was!! Anyway, I think it's important to notice and share with your doc if you feel like it's bothering you. Any unpleasant side effect is worth watching, especially since so many of us are combining a number of medications.

I would have very strange experiences and vivid dreams. One night I had an out-of-body experience for a very short period of time.

I know it is the Neurontin. I have been taking it for 3 weeks and the very first night I started the vivid dreams. Some of them for me were a bit nightmarish but thats probably because of my bad past w/ life and ex husbands and also whats going on in my life now. (Lots of financial arranging around right now.) Anyway, the Neurontin I take 300 mg. at night and I'm suppost to take 300 mg.s twice during the day totaling to a whopping 900 mg. per day, but I can't get past 1-2 in the a.m. and 1-2 during lunch. I have never slept better at night since I have been taking them. I would still keep taking them just to see if it helps. Godd Luck!! Pamela

I had a good night last night...I slept 5 hrs straight and no nightmares!! When I started the Neurontin I thought I'd try to lower the Mirapex since they both help RLS but then realized that may not have been a good idea so I went back to a the higher dosage of Mirapex so I'm hoping that's all I needed to do.

I'm glad to hear others have had similar vividness. I also heard that Neurontin can cause more short-term memory problems. Anyone notice that? It's not like we don't already have enough of that, HA!

Thanks everyone and hope you have a painfree day!

    Hi There,
I take nuerontin too and have had dreams but can't remember. It seems like I sleep real deep and all night.
I had a problem with the nuerontin at first. Dr. gave me 300 mg to take at night, but next day I felt like a zombie,so he started me taking 100 mg 3 times a day. I have went up to 200 3 times a day and it is helping the pain in hip which I've had for almost 8 months. They say its a pinched nerve. I went to a pain specialist and he wanted to give me injections. I did'nt feel comfortable doing that yet but will if it comes back. I've been taking 2 tablets since yesterday and fill like I've a little drunk but Lord it eases that pain,so I'll just take this buzz and hope my body adjusts. I feel like I've died and am in heaven just to be pain free. Terri

In my experience, Neurontin does not mix well with very much. I was on it for some time and the only relief I got from it was that it helped my restless legs and feet, and never was successful in FM pain. I slept a bit better but never woke up any more rested plus it was compatible with nothing else that I needed. It affected my concentration and memory. Just thought I would let you know what effect another had. Some members of my family have used Neurontin at high doses and also had memory problems.

Most of the side effect of Neurontin go away within a month or so depending on how much you are taking and how long it takes you to ramp up on it. I take 1800 mg a day and I ramped up very quickly on it so my side effect were very bad and lasted about a month. I currently take Neurontin, topamax (almost the same as Neurontin), two anti-depressants and one pill to help me sleep. Neurontin does mix with other medications as long as you take it at the same time every day and you check for any interactions.

I hope your nightmares go away soon.
