    Hi all,

Although I do not post here often, I monitor the board daily and am amazed at the amount of love and support everyone has for one another!

In short, I have been having significant fatigue and brain fog over the past 20 years (CFIDS since 1988). As I know you can relate to, I have been to countless doctors and still have no answers...until possibly now.

My last blood test showed that my Ferritin levels (a protein in the blood that binds iron) were at 650. This is about 300 over the normal. I am seeing a hematologist next Thursday as my doctor said that this "could be" the reason why I am feeling so bad. I also tested as a Compound Heterozygote for Hereditary Hemochromatosis, which is a genetic disease that causes the body to absorb and store too much iron.

Q's: Does anyone else have Hereditary Hemochromatosis here? Does anyone just have raised Ferritin levels? If so, what are your symptoms?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

And it was when I had a major relapse in my symptoms plus severe gastro issues. I also had low albumin levels. I have had my iron levels tested quite a few times over the last decade and I have never had ferritin levels this high, in fact they have been on the low side.

After a few weeks my ferritin levels were tested again and they were normal. My specialist said that temporarily raised ferritin levels often mean that your body is fighting an infection and/or inflammation.

I hope you find the cause of your raised ferritin levels and that they get resolved.
