Hi - I live in CT but went to Charlotte, NC, a few years back for a consult with Dr. Charles Lapp - who specializes in our disease. He is a knowledgeable, caring physician; but he does not take insurance and his fees are high.

Was I cured? No, but at least I found the validation I needed and some coping mechanisms.

Beleive it or not, I went to Duke about 14 years ago....I was so excited, I just knew this was going to be the doctor that could figure out what was wrong with me. Guess what, he said all my problems came from me being a woman and women tend to worry too much and bring it all on thereselves. I was so mad when I left there, that's when I just stopped going to the doctors for a while. It was years later I was told of fibromyalgia.I know there are other doctors there, just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But thanks again!

HI. MY DOCTOR IS ON HWY 68 IN OAK RIDGE, NC. DR. ROBERT FRIED. CHECK YOUR MAP, NOT TOO FAR FROM W-S. IT IS DO-ABLE. I AM NOT SURE IF HE IS TAKING NEW PTS. HE IS KNOWLEDGABLE AND CARING. EAGLE FAMILY MEDICINE. I DON'T KNOW IF WE ARE PERMITTED TO POST ANY OF THIS?

at the Hunter Hopkins clinic, in Charlotte. It is definitely worth the drive. I drive two hours to see him. And yes, the fees are high, but the clinic gives you a form you can file with your insurance company so as to get reimbursement. He is extremely thorough. Expect about a three to four hour appointment at the clinic the first time. He will talk to you for an hour or more, and he also administers tests. He is well-known all over the U.S. as a fibromyalgia/CFS specialist, and he is also on the board for this web site.
