There is a Dr. Gelfand who practices in Myrtle Beach and Little River. I have only seen him once since I have an excellent pain dr. who practices in Sunset Beach in North Carolina. His name is Dr. Henry Lapore. He dxed my fibromyalgia and referred me to Dr. Gelfand who is a rheumatologist. I am planning to return to see Dr. Gelfand who has written several articles on fibromyalgia since I now know more questions for Dr. Gelfand. Dr. LaPore rxs most of the pain meds I need. My family physician is also familiar with this disease.

    Good Luck,

Welcome to our board. The Myrtle Beach area is a place I have considered moving to and have wondered about the cost of living. I know I can buy a mobile home relatively cheaply, but I am wondering about things like registering and licensing a car. I live in Florida and we have no state income tax here. It is cheap to license a car. Mobile homes are more expensive here.

I have a condo, but I am getting ready to try to return to work and if it doesn't work out, I will need to sell my condo and move to more affordable housing.

I am also interested in docs up your way. Speaking of up your way, I hope the hurricane moves out in the Atlantic and doesn't hit you guys.

and I'm looking for a doctor too! I'm not really in a big hurry ... I will continue to see my old doc in Charlotte until my claim is settled ... but I have heard, Rob, that there are a couple of good ones here. One is Wendy Lee, I think. If you get the Sun Times, they advertise the practice in there ... or check out the paper's website.

Where in MB are you?? We are just over the swing bridge from Cherry Grove.

We found it's cheaper to live here than it was in Charlotte. We were lucky enough to find a house with a lease/purchase option (the owner has another, if you're interested!) ... but there are lots of affordable places here.

Auto registration ... you pay your auto tax & get your tag. Nothing really to it. For your driver's license, you just take the eye test.

Thanks for the info. I guess what I was wondering is how expensive it is to license a car. I bought a new one a year ago and it was only $67 to license it here. In CO, my daughter paid $700 to license an almost identical car.

I love it here, but I don't know if I can or want to work myself so hard just to keep my condo, which I do love. I really liked the Myrtle Beach area too. I'm not making any hasty decisions, but I'm definitely keeping MB as my Plan B.

BTW, Dr. Cheney has moved from the Charlotte area to Asheville in NC and I heard he is not taking new patients. I respect Dr. Cheney very much and also admire him, but I have only heard one or two success stories from his patients and he is very expensive. I take his articles to my own doc and we use what benefits me. I'm lucky to have a good PCP and specialist in FMS/CFIDS.
