    Hi everybody,

I have CFS for 9 years now. 7 years it was quite mild. I could work but felt sick all the time and could'nt exercise. For one year now I'm in hell because the illness has reached my head. The worst symptom are my eyes. I see blurry all the time and my eyes cannot focus. My eyes are red and itchy, but the worst is that lights are different than before. the contrast is so strange. lights are really bright and i have problems to see in the dark. It's a feeling as if you press your eyes together very strongly and the open them fast. Then the coulours come back but in my case they dont come back fully. I know it sounds strange but maybe anyone knows this, cause if not then I assume it is not from CFS. Please let me know if you have similar symptoms and maybe found something to help the eyes. Thank you

Hi Henk - Go and see an eye specialist as this is not CFS.

Eyes are funny that can really have serious damage if you ignore problems. This deserves immediate attention from an ophthalmologist to be on the safe side. Good luck, and I hope you get answers and some clearing of your eyesight.

Not sure if its part of CFS but I have some of the same symptoms. I have read vision problems are part of CFS.. I am seeing my eye doctor Thurs. My eyes also sting and burn and I am no longer able to wear eye make up. Sometimes my vision is so blurry I am afraid to drive.

Without any testing I did have a rheumy dx me with Sjogren's..

Will let you know what the eye doc says..

My vision is blurry at times and I go into stores and the lighting is just so strong it messes with my head I cannot even look at the light fixture it seems like the lighting is soo bright!!! It is so hard to explain... It causes me to have anxiety!!! I have talked to my doctor but she did not comment eye doctor is on my list to get eyes checked !!! But then I have days where it's not bad. So I so not know if it's fibro or cfs. I have both. . I will be watching this post. Thanks crickett

Whether or not these eye problems are part of CFS, you need to see an ophthalmologist.

Take the advice offered here. Any time we have a new symptom, it needs to be investigated, especially when it comes to vision and the central nervous system. Our eyes are only the lenses; we see with our brains.

I just happened to mention my eyes were a bit dry when I had my eye exam. After testing, I have a specific type of dry eye which may indicate Sjogren's Syndrome. My doc and I will be doing further testing. We are treating the dry eye as it can damage one's vision if left unattended. Not trying to scare you but you really do need to see the doc--the sooner, the better. Good luck.

    Love, Mikie

Darn, now I forgot the name he gave for it. He did a lot of tests to rule out Sjogren's. And it still might be, but he put me on Restasis (prescription med) eye drops and they improved a LOT. You know the one test where the lines go horizontal, vertical and at an angle, and they ask which is the darkest?

Well, to me they always all looked the same...never one darker than the other. He had me go back every two weeks for 3 months, and by the end of that time on the Restasis and Systane drops in between my eyes became much better.

Your symptoms are exactly the same as mine were! But please be seen because we're all different! Besides the fact that I couldn't watch tv and barely use the computer any more, life in general was just miserable. Now it's back to its normal bad Jole

You must find the causes of your illness in order to recover.

It is likely that one or more infectious agents are making you so sick.

Borrelia burgdorferi (a bacterial spirochete otherwise known as Lyme) is a common cause of fatigue, pain, etc. It can definitely cause visual problems.

You may even have other infections like Babesia, associated with post exertional malaise and other symptoms.

Please take the time to read through this booklet. You may recognize alot of the symptoms.

There is also a great symptom list in this paper on pages 9-11, with symptom info for Babesia, bartonella, ehrlichia, etc on pages 22-27...

You should see an eye specialist asap.

Keep in mind that everything has a root cause and it is important to find it in order to get better.

You've gotten some good replies. I will add that according to Dr Shoemaker, vision symptoms often indicate exposure to mold toxins. Might be worth checking into mold sensitivity.
