Anyone treating Lyme without antibiotics?

I have had problems (some mild, some serious) with many, many antibiotics. I am afraid that long-term antibiotic therapy may not be available to me for this reason. Is there anyone here who has treated Lyme with non-antibiotic means and had success?

    Hi Juloo,
Oh that little Lyme bugger, wreaking havoc on our lives! So sorry that ABX are causing you problems. First I'd ask you, are you seeing an LLMD? What does he/she say?

Have you visited You can do a search there on the forum. People are talking about different non-ABX therapies they have used. Among them are homeopathics and there's a Chinese protocol, too.

Many people strongly recommend the book "Healing Lyme: Natural Healing and Prevention of Lyme Borreliosis and Its Coinfections" by Stephen Buhner. In fact, I just got my copy in the mail yesterday...ordered it on Overstock dot com for 12.89 plus 1.40 shipping.

Buhner is an ND from a long line of NDs. His book is very thorough. Several chapter titles are:

The Core Protocol: Natural Healing of Lyme Borreliosis

The Expanded Protocol: An Herbal Repertory for Lyme Disease

    Herbal Treatment of Lyme Coinfections

The Lyme Protocol and Reportory Streamlined

Good luck with finding the best care available,

that dealt with using Rife machines for Lyme...

"When Antibiotics Fail...Lyme Disease and Rife Machines " by Brian Rosner; he also has a website but I haven't looked at it thoroughly yet.

I was thinking about writing to one of the people who wrote a positive review about the above book and about actually using a Rife (a couple of reviews were written after a couple of months of using one for Lyme) to see how they were doing, as most of those reviews were written at least 10 months ago...

My son has chronic Lyme, 10 months on oral abx, he may have to go to IV abx, so I am also checking out other approaches.
I am also buying the book about the herbal approaches.

I know Mikie has talked about using a Rife machine - or zapper - for her mycoplasma...

    all the best,

Your responses are so helpful -- wave a book title in front of me, and I'll go buy it right away. It suits my research bug. I have a zapper as well...better go dust it off, I guess. I know that there are individual elements that can be plugged in for different problems -- perhaps I can do some research on that as well.

My Lyme is 'presumed' -- 4 out of 16 bands on the IGG from Igenex (1 of 16 on IGM). 'Suspicious' is how my doctor put it.

I have c. pneumoniae as well. If I am not mistaken, the treatments are similar. Antibiotics just do me in, thogh. I will have to approach this from another angle, and I'm just getting started...

No bulls-eyes for me, but my husband had one about a year and a half ago. We visit family in New England every summer (me since I was born, dh since 1988).

Dr. Sharp recommended these to me for Lyme. It is using Dr.Lee Cowden's approach. Also Samento is being used. I am also presumed positive..but the doctor, not the CDC definition of five positive bands. I only had one positive and many IND.

He believes it is better than antibiotics b/c less damaging. I am not sure if it is enough to get rid of Lyme, but time will tell as he uses with more patients. Perhaps Dr. B could contact him about the protocal.

It seems so many CFIDS patients are now being diagnosed with Lyme. Did you suspect you had it before the test?

I know that sounds like a really strange thing to say. I guess I've mostly been involved in the drained adrenals part of CF -- the interest in viral and infectious contributors really didn't hit until about a year ago.

As I mentioned before, I've spent a couple weeks a year up in the northeast US every summer. The first time I heard of Lyme was 1983, I think. I was doing a summer program on Nantucket, and one of the daughters of the program's founders had it. So a part of me has had that in the back of my mind for quite a long time.

I understand it is down into the northeastern part of Florida and in the barriers islands of Florida/Georgia. That's another place I could have picked it up. In 1993, it could have been the 2-hour up-to-my-waist-in-palmettos pre-building construction visit. I came away from that with between 200 and 300 chigger bites (no kidding). Who knows if there were others!

They help boost your immune system. What I read was that stress of any kind - illness or other - can shrink your thymus gland.

Thymulus by Enz. Therapy helped me years ago from getting the flu every few weeks; felt a 'lift after taking it intensively 3 days - just felt so much better so soon, I was surprised.

    I was back online researching this and other things for the immune system; just reading somewhere else about the thymus extract and how injections helped a boy that was dying from flu or the 1960s;

the doctor that reported it and others thought there'd be a whole new class of drugs or whatever about it... guess again.

But there is bovine thymus gland extract; if I remember right it was the same used in experiments, etc. Google it and see what you find, it's very interesting.

    all the best,

Do you have a lyme specialist? My son always had problems with ABX. He was diagnosed with Lyme in the summer. With supplemants he has been tolerating the ABX. I thnk many of his problems in the past with tolerating the ABX was actually the lyme disease itself. Lyme is a serious disease please consider seeing a llmd.

I'm not sure how brave I would have to be to try antibiotics again. The last time I had a reaction, the skin in certain areas of my body turned red, like a really bad sunburn -- very bumpy, just shy of actual blisters. And it hurt like a sunburn as well. And ITCHED.

I signed on to LymeNet, and they sent a password to my home address. But I usually have surf time during lunch at WORK. So I wrote it down and took it with me yesterday, but then didn't have time. Now I can't find the pw here at home!

    Darned fog.

I remember from another post I read in the last month or so that there is a Florida Lyme advocacy group that is headquartered in my little town (actually just 1/2 mile away from my house). I am going to get the phone number and call -- that might be my best bet for a local LLMD. I'm still trying to get my husband tested w/the IgeneX.

Are more sophisticated zappers. They can be used to diagnose and to kill pathogens in the bloodstream. One can dial in whatever discrete frequency is needed for a particular pathogen.

With zappers, one usually uses a "one-frequency-kills-all" setting; however, some zappers will accommodate cards which produce frequencies for specific pathogens. I have a Hulda Clark zapper and it uses the cards. I just use it as is and it seems to work really well. It only costs $150; the Rife Machines cost thousands. Both work on the same physical basis. Health practitioners are usually the ones using the Rifes. I don't know whether the Clark website sells a card just for Lyme or not.

I haven't been diagnosed with Lyme but the zapper has been an important part of my CFIDS treatment for other pathogens, including mycoplasmas.

Do you happen to have a list of zapper 'keys' and the frequencies they affect? The Clark site can no longer list the pathogens, only the key's catalog number, and you can imagine, that's useless.

I do have a zapper that has the 'key' interface.

    Thanks for any help!

I haven't received anything from them in a long time. Have you called them? I know the FDA tried to shut them down for making health claims they couldn't support. They are being very, very careful.

    Good luck.

finally I had the chance to talk with that German Doctor that I mentioned in other threads. He is just great! He listens, and understands, and has such a knowledgement about EBV!

So, I am going to start treatment with thymus gland extract and Utilin S.
People, I tell you, there are already many patients in Germany who have been treated with this and feel much much better.

This treatment is a thousand times better than any Famvir, Provigil or whatever. I know I know, some people it might help, even I take Provigil, but it is JUST a temporary help. I call it treating on the surface!

Do you still take thymus extracts? May I ask you where you got it/odered it? Thanks! :)

    All the best,

    I've only taken it in the past couple of years if I felt I was becoming ill (and not herxing) as I'm doing the Marshall Protocol;

but my son is taking it along with other supplements... arginine in particular seems to have helped him cognitively BTW.

The product is 'Thymulus' by Enzymatic Therapy - they have another product similarly named but it has other things in it that didn't need to be duplicated since they were in other supplements that I was taking at the time and my son is taking currently...

It's hard to find Thymulus, most places sell the other preparation by Enz. Therapy...

Locally, out of 4 health food/vitamin stores, only one place sells it and I think that's cuz the owner is a naturopath. The other stores sell the other. I believe you can find it online tho.

    Thanks for the info, too.

    all the best,

I see that product all the time in my grocer. If you have Independant Grocers or Loblaws (same company), and it has the large health store section, chances are it's there. The health store isn't owned by Ind./Loblaws though, it's run by someone else and seems to rent space, like the pharmacies the big stores have now. So, other large grocers that aren't Cdn. chains may have them too.

I am also really doubtful about my ability to tolerate much more antibiotic therapy . Besides that , I really do get a strong die off reaction ( herx) from samento and esp from BURBUR ( who knows why ) .

Thanks for sharing this info !
