Hi guys. I feel like I am venturing out asking this ques. but I am wondering how many here have tried pot for relief. As most of you know they have come out with a pill now, instead of having to smoke it. I have never tried it myself, but I know Montel Williams uses it for his multiple scelorosis pain control. If you have please share your input about the results. Please noone take offense to this question.

No, I haven't and I wouldn't smoke it. But I would be open to try a pill. I would have to research it first and it would have to be legal in my state first.

I knew an older woman in Mexico City who had a tincture made from the leaves and alcohol. She soaked her hands in it every morning to help her with her arthritis which was severe and her hands were very painful. She was a spry 80 something except for her hands.

I've heard it used for pain relief and for nausea. Marinol was prescribed for AIDS patient's to help stimulate appetite back in the 90's. I haven't heard anything about it for me/cfs/fm though.

I think for me I would worry that it would just make my brain fog worse.

    Interesting question though-

Hi there: Are you talking about Cessamet? It is a synthetic "pot". It comes in a capsule and is available by rx. in Canada. I have been on it for a couple of months. I take one at bedtime. I find it brings the pain to a livable level. It helps me to sleep at night. My pain specialist says there are studies of it helping people with chronic pain. It made me spacey for a few days and was told not to drive for a couple of days. If I am in a deep sleep and wake up I tend to get a bit confused and it takes a few min. to figure out where I am. Don't know if that helps you or not. All the best.

it is great for pain, increases energy and clears brain fog which is all rather astounding given how it affects healthy people. While it clears brain fog, it brutalizes short term memory!

The problem is it makes me push and crash. The first thing that happens is I sit up and stretch which feels wonderful and then I proceed to take up a project and I keep going as long as there is herbal remedy around or I fall down in a twitching, woozy heap from totally overdoing. It will also pick me up, for a time, after I crash. It's quite remarkable. People with ME seem to respond similarly to people with MS.

One can get a script here for various illnesses but I do not believe ours are covered. The government grows its own. It's quite good.

Ultimately, I decided that I wasn't really doing myself any good by being artificially stimulated into the push crash cycle.

Also, it can cause any who have a tendency to panic to have a wicked attack at first although this effect passes.

And, it may have made my balance issues worse, temporarily, but I'm not sure because they worsen when I overdo and I always overdid.

    It's a very mixed bag.

    Peace out,

ETA Unlike Caffey, I used the traditional delivery method.

I was wrong, the Gov. doesn't grow it. It gets it from a company which grows it for them.

    I love this country :~)

You just answered some questions I was about to post. When I had my horrific flare, I actually thought about it but where would a woman in her fifties get it?

Also it never agreed with me. It made my heart beat and I would feel panicky.

Are you sure you really did get all those things done that you said you did? LOL

So can you get it legally from Canada? Do you have to have a script?

Does marinol make you high. I am surprised it would clear your brain fog. Interesting.

It's not the sixties/seventies anymore when people would grow their own. Nowdays you never know what it is laced with.

Yikes, I just realized I am sixty!!! It's the new forty.

Yes, I also had a script for Cessamet unfortunately it makes me feel sick.

Too bad, would have loved some relaxed time.

I have a friend who had a script for MS and she gave it to me because it made her panic. It's not any of the derivatives but the old fashioned green stuff.

A very small amount had a really remarkable effect on me but I could not resist the urge to DO! Being able to DO was so remarkable that I would not pace.

I couldn't run a marathon or anything but I could sit up at the computer (I didn't have a laptop then), I could paint and draw, I could see what a mess my apt. was and do something about it, I could handle way more stimulation.

It made my friend who as MS PANIC!!! It's not like the old days.

I would use it again if I had to do something that I cannot manage now. Members of my family urged me to get my own script when they saw how well it worked. From time to time, I still have to very patiently explain to friends and family why it isn't a good idea for me to smoke pot and they don't smoke pot themselves. It's easier for them to understand the great improvement they do see than the crash they don't see.

Uhm, I can't remember any of the questions and I haven't used it in years.

    Peace out,

That's so interesting that it cleared the brain fog! I wonder why?

It would be so nice to not have this fog for awhile...

But , I would lean more towards the natural than the synthetic. Man can't do anything anywhere near as good as God can.......IMHO....

I've never seen a "God Recall" or a lawsuit against Him.

my mom tried it in both forms...smoking and pill...neither worked for her.

I have tried "pot", only in the natural form, and it worked wonders for me. I only smoke it, and only when i feel i need to do something that it realllly takes a lot of energy to do, such as houseclean, etc. I find that if I smoke to much of it, the healthy effect tends to wear off very very quickly, and it also doesnt last as long, but, in the right amount it works wonders. Clears the brain fog so that I can think, and gives me energy to function with. Sometimes it can have the reverse effect; instead of helping, it can hurt if you overuse it. Makes you even more tired and drained, sometimes it takes your appetite away, instead of making you eat, but, hey everything in moderation, right? ;) I actually like the way it makes me feel, though. Anyway I suggest giving it a try, but only in the natural form and only in small amounts, especially at first. Monitor how it makes you feel and use it only when necessary. Hope this info helps and hope you feel better soon. God bless and gud luck.

Same as Rafiki, but I have learned to manage myself with it. I have a scrip from my doc, my real doc, not some quack. The energy push it can give you can cause you to overdo things, and subsequently crash.

Fewer negative side-effects than the Neurontin that I take and hate.

When I first became bed-ridden with M.E. and FM/MPS complex over eight years ago (I was 25), one of my specialists prescribed me a very low dose of Marinol (active ingredient in marijuana as others have said) which, unfortunately, did not increase my appetite or touch my pain. I simply became a vegetable for days. My parents and brother had to check on me in my med and "wake me up" so to speak every thirty minutes.

Note: I've never even smoked marijuana, so we didn't know what was going to happen.

It has helped many others, though...Perhaps the synthetic, Canadian version might be a less potent start...

Let us know if you try it and how you feel!

Marinol is a synthetic version. Most synthetic versions can have more and stronger side effects than the natural stuff.

Also , the natural MJ does not have to be smoked to gain potential benefits. There are other ways this natural medicine can be taken. (i.e. , Brownies). If done correctly , the THC does NOT "cook out".

    Blessings ,

I haven't tried it either although I have a 23 year old daughter who I am sure could get it for me. I've never been a smoker of anything, so I would prefer putting it in brownies or something *L*.

I wonder if clearing the brain fog is a similar mechanism to how Ritalin helps hyperactive children maintain a level of calmness. I've also heard that ADD adults find that weed does the same thing. I try to call it "pot" around my kids and all I hear is "MOM, no one calls it that anymore, its weed" *LOL*.

I have done a ton of research since I got the positive dx for FM and I found a website that ranked the treatments for pain with FM and marijuana topped the list.

I get different reactions when I take a few hits
of pot. Sometimes it totally relaxes my muscles, and thus the pain is eased. (helps me sleep)
other times I feel no different,
    just a little giddy :)
    oh,..and hungry.

Yet, to much makes me kinda freaked out/paranoid.

Cessamet is by prescription. I think natural pot is available for palliative patients etc but I am not sure. If you want to know more I could ask my son if you know what I mean. lol.

even though this subject is controversial....

It won't help all , but may help some...

If I get the chance to try this alternative , I'll share my results.

    Blessings ,
