Over the time that I have been tested for TSH I have noticed that the normal statis has been gradually changing. On my last test it is .4-3.5 Maybe they're finally waking up and smelling the coffee.

Anyhow, a step in the right direction.

Have the units used to measure it been consistent? Also, have you had TSH measured at different laboratories? Both of these could be the reason for the shift.

However, many physicians have reported that the upper threshold is too high. Depending on the lab, the current reference range is approximately 0.4 - 4.5 mcIU/mL (micro International Units/milliliter). From some physicians I have spoken to, they believe that a more accurate TSH reference range should be approximately 0.4 - 3.0 mcIU/mL.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi you guys,

According to Mary Shomon, the upper limit for normal on TSH tests is now supposed to be 3.5
She says some doctors and labs have been slow to adopt the new standards. I guess change is hard for lots of people.
