at the top of the stairs, just fell over to one side.
so i'm going to my g.p. and demanding to be referred to a neurologist, before i end up with broken bones.
if he won't refer me then next time i fall,i'm off to A&E...they will have to deal with me then,

    But what is A&E.
Hope you didn't get hurt badly.
I tripped over my dishwasher door last wed. and it still hurts like blazes today. I ended up face mashed into the floor with the dishwasher on top of me. Cats crawling all over me trying to get me up.
The scary part was I was at home by myself. Husband wouldn't be home for 6 hours. So I finally managed to get up. But can't leave the house or people will have my husband arrested. Face is black and blue on one side.
take care and get checked out definetly. As soon as possible.

If I were you, I'd exaggerate the neuro symptoms if you have to (though I realize you may *not* have to!!), just to get an appointment with a neuro. Sounds unscrupulous I know, but some GP's in the UK won't refer without the patient seeming like they're at death's door. And even then reluctantly!
btw, hate to say this, but my neuro was more arrogant and insensitive than my rheumy. Hope you get lucky!
    Best wishes,

A&E...stands for accident and emergency...a drastic last resort if my g.p won't refer me to a neurologist.at least if i get rushed in as an emergency, they will have to treat me.not ideal, but if my g.p. won't refer me,what choice do i have.
    marcus...point taken....maybe i can fall straight into g.p's office,i nearly did last week,hehehe!!
do consultants actually exist in the u.k. who are't arrogant,i sometimes wonder?

my knees hurt like mad, they are bruised, but i'm just glad i didn't go straight down the stairs,it could have been so much worse!

i don't just have problems on the stairs,i have fallen over in the street and in various other places in the house.it could be because of my FMS,but it could be something else.that is why i want to see a neurologist, just to make sure it isn't another problem that is as yet undiagnosed,

if you are only having problems on stairs. It may be that your depth perception is out of wack.
You could put a contrasting colour at the edge of the stair tred. And make sure it is well lighted. Also always use the banister.
Sybil I think all specialists all over the world are a bit arogant. It must be a class at specialist medical school. If you don't do well there then you fail.
    take care
