I am about ready to cry from my legs aching clear to the bone, I could swear that some one was trying to break each bone slowly and I can't stand it any more. I have taken all my meds that I can and still I hurt . I really hate this. I am so sick of sching all over either my muscles ache or my bones ache, or I just plain hurt all over.
I know that the stress 's I have been going thru are making my pain levels go up up up , I am trying not to stress over this situation I am in but I can't stop it. I had to go to the old houes tonight with my daughter so that she could pick up all her things adn all the toys we had for the grandkids, this house we are in now is too small for any toys so they went home with my youngest daughter for her kids.
Am I being normal to be having such bad leg aches with my fibro? Bad leg aches are not new to me as I had them as a 4 yr old. But the treatment has changed since then Asprin and Vitiman C were what i took as a child don't remember if it helped of not.
I am having a lot of pain in my left wrist [ I am a gifted klutz, 5 yrs 5 1/2 yrs ago I tripped over a sidewalk and fell on my palms. I shattered my wrist adn broke the radius as wel, I have a titaium plate adn screws to hold it to gether again [ Like Humpty Dumpty} Only one of the screws is loose and it moves around causeing me to hurt more. It can't just be one thing can it/

I sat down one day to list what all was wrong with me and it was so depressing to write here I am a 54 yr old woman who has fibro , DDD, spinal stenosis, end stage oesto-arthritis in both knee's, oesteo arthritis in the left wrist and spine, buldging discs L4-5 S1-2, and I can't spell.
I can't sl eep at night I dont' get sleepy if I lay down in bed jsut lay there awake I sleep after my hubby gets up and then I sleep till 1 or 2 pm.
I hate this never ending pain in my body, I dont' have control over my booody any more, or at least not how i react to pain. I want to be happy and have fun being albe to play with my 4 grand children ages 5,3,2 1/2 and 1, 1yrs. By the end of this year I will hvae two new grandbabies to love. BUt due to the weakness I have in my knee's adn wrist I will not be able to carry the babies around or walk with them . it is sad that I can't do some ting so sssimple as to walk with a baby in my arms.
I am just sick of the pain and I so want to sleep in my own bed just once. before morning.
Sorry for the complaining and whining. I Thanks for your understanding

are having a dreadful night. I am sorry. what came to mind as I was reading about the intensity of of your pain--marajuana. I hear some people get a lot of relief. I know several people who have medical prescriptions.

I had pain last night myself. It kept waking me up but I do not think it was as bad as yours is. I do wish when pain gets to the point where it keeps distracting me I had something that would help. I have been thinking about pot more and more for myself. But, I already have a fair apetite I do not need anymore help : ) I will not rule it out though.

I read your bio stuff. Sounds like your into crafting. Me too--when I can. I love it. I love gardening more. Ha--it just tires me out too fast now and I have the tendency to overdo it once I get going. It is funny I suppose because I do not get far very fast and I can get so wiped out.

I know where you are coming from when it comes to making lists of ailments. It is depressing and mind boggling. I think I indulge in denial when it comes to acknowledging all that is wrong with me.

I do not know what to suggest to you for pain other than the above but that will not be there for you tonight. I don't know if you can take more of your pain meds or not. I use a heating pad a lot, take celebrex daily, use muscle relaxants as needed and take motrin once in a blue moon. I am not suppose to use motrin as I take meds for high bp. But sometimes I have to break the cycle and it helps most of the time--at least for a few hours.

Another thing that works for me is destracting myself. It is odd to me. I am having lots of feet pain--it is bad when I am on them. However, I have been doing some treadmill work (just a few minutes) and if I can distract myself I do not feel how much it hurts each time a foot lands on the treadmill. I jack up the music and look out the window and watch my dogs, chickens the deer whatever crosses my visual path and it can work for a few minutes at a time. Othewise I am not sure I could force myself to get on the treadmill. I realized that I have been too inactive for too long now and I can feel it. I want to build more time on the mill but these feet are getting in the way.

Well I have gotten pretty wordy here for this time of the night. I hope that you find some relief or at the very least some distraction. You are not alone.

I get alot of leg pain at night that wakes me up, i suppose its restless leg syndrome, but its more like growing pains like when i was a kid but abit worse i suppose, i also have lower back trouble that aggravates my insomnia. The last few weeks i have been on topamax, its an anticonvulsant used for this type of pain as well as preventing migraines, so far so good. Something you can google up and ask your doc about.

    good luck

You are dealing with a lot of things and I don't wish your pain on anyone.

Has a doctor ever mentioned restless leg syndrome? I have had it since I was 16 but did not need medication for it until about six years ago when I became very anemic. You describe exactly what I deal with, especially at night. My RLS is pretty severe and it also effects the lower part of my arms. I get symptoms at night but also during the day.

You do not have to have your legs thrashing around with RLS. That would be Periodic Leg Movement Disorder (PLMD) which can have the same type of pain.

One thing that can make this worse is if your iron count is low. Not just the regular blood count but also your ferritin level which is your iron storage. When I was anemic, it made the symptoms much worse.

I am not a doctor, so this may not be your problem, but if you have not had this checked out, it might be a good option.

That deep aching clear to the bone, to me it almost feels like my bones are frozen.

Have you had a sleep study? It might help to get some relief for sleeping.

I also had bad wrist and arm fractures and this is what started my FM.

I have grandbabies, too. I can carry them for short periods of time, however to take care of them for more than a few hours is too much. This has been very difficult for me to accept.

Don't be sorry for venting. Venting is very different than complaining or whining. There will be a time that you will be able to give someone advice and support, if you already haven't, but right now it is your turn to have a bit of TLC.

    Take care.

ETA Heapsreal, we must have posted at the same time, LOL.[This Message was Edited on 03/01/2010]

Thanks for the advise about leg aches, your posts make me feel less alone. Now if I could just get my family to understand and my hubby to assist me with finance's I would be less emotional.
I don't remember who asked what I was taking for pain, I am on MScontin, MSIR, Soma, Visteril, Xanax I also take vitiman D suppliments CAl /Mag. But nothing seems to ease my pain, I think that most of it is due to stress lack of money is a killer for me right now.
My DH informed me that I will have to pay for the windshield by the end of March. Don't know where that money will come from or where any money will come from to help me pay the bills I already have. I know that i am stressing about things I can't change but I dont' know what to do or who I can turn to for help.I don't know what I am going to do about the car as I take my MOm to her doctors, uptown, out of town Md's , she does not have the money to help me. So we are both up a creek. Thanks for caring about me it does help to vent about this. I still ache all over today and my legs still ache. But I will manage some how I hope.

It sounds as if you had to move out of your house into a smaller one. Boy, moving is stressful. I know because I moved last year after living in the same house for around 38 years. I wouldn't wish moving on anyone!

I know you have a lot of other stresses, too. Stress is probably the biggest cause of your pain.

However, you said that you have "end-state osteoarthritis" in your knees. I have never heard osteoarthritis referred to as end-stage; however, if you mean that your knees are bone-on-bone, I personally know that this condition will cause your entire leg to really hurt.

If your knees are in this bad of shape, the only was to get rid of the pain is to have a total knee replacement. Both of my knees are/were in this shape. The bones were rubbing on bones every time that I move my leg. I had a total knee replacement done in my left knee first, about 2 years ago. It was the best thing that I have ever done! I felt better in the recovery room after surgery than I did when I entered the hospital!

I would never get both knees done at the same time, though! My right knee needs done ASAP, I'm just waiting for flu season to get over before I go into the hospital. My right leg hurts from my hip to my toes. It is unbelievable how bad this knee can make me feel. After trying to walk on it a little bit during the day (when I'm not in my wheelchair), I can't sleep due to the pain.

If both of your knees are in the same shape as mine, that might be a reason why your legs are hurting. If that's the case, have you ever given it any thought to having a total knee replacement in one or both of your knees? I had my worse knee done first.

I hope you get to feeling better soon.

I, too, have suffered from bad "bone" aches in my legs - as I call them. I also have restless leg syndrome and the pains in my legs are different (at least for me). I have described the leg pain as a "deep bone ache," almost as though I was recovering from someone having hit on my legs with a baseball bat (although I actually have never been hit on the legs with a baseball bat).

I haven't had the pains in a while. When they were at their worst, I saw a pain specialist. I dignosed sacroiliitis. My sacro-iliac joints were severely inflamed. I asked why my "leg-bones" would be hurting due to sacroiliitis and he said that the nerves run through those joints. It wasn't causing pain like sciatica, it was actual BONE pain. I had cortisone injections in both sacroiliac joints and within 3-4 days my incredibly severe back pain was gone, as well as the pain in my legs. It comes back every once in a while but NOTHING like it was before.

As far as restless legs go......since I started taking magnesium, my episodes of RLS have decreased significantly. I also take Requip.

    Good luck.

So sorry for the pain, I do understand about the leg pain, it is NOT restless leg syndrome pain, it is more like it is in the bone marrow correct? Any chance the weather is changing in your area in the next day to two days? My worst leg pains come on when the weather is changing in two days, it's like the barometric changes are going to crush you.

I don't know what type of medicines you are taking at this time, but I finally got a handle on the "bone crusher" pain with a combination of Lyrica and Savella. You have to play with the dosage till you get it right. Before that the only thing that worked was Tramadol and Excedrin, even percocet didn't quite catch this leg pain. It's from the inside-inside.

I do agree with the magnesium suggestion, it makes a big difference.
As for the sleeping? I've been on ambien for about 10 yrs. now. Nothing else works!!!!!

Everyone is different in how they react to medication, some can get off with such small changes while others of us have to bring in the big guns.
Another remedy you might want to try is the rubbing alcohol on your legs. It's an amazing thing for growing pains, I used it on my sons when they were growing up, it a wonder.
They also say soaking in Epsom salts takes the edge off.
    Wish you well,

By far, my leg aches/pains are my WORST symptom. They always have been. I had the "growing pains" as a kid then went in for x-rays when I couldn't walk up the stairs suddenly, had to crawl. Of course, they couldn't find anything wrong. That was 25 yrs ago.

My legs hurt every single day. It's hard to describe the DEEP ache - to the bone. My legs ache so badly sometimes that it makes me vomit.

What I have to do is - if I'm sitting on the couch, is put a pillow under my legs, more towards my knee area (so you butt is more on the couch). Put a pillow behind your back. Your knees will be elevated a bit. Then I wrap heating pads around my knees. That isn't easy but usually the tops of my knees hurt worse, so I try to get the tops covered, then put a blanket or something on top for weight.

If I'm laying down, while on my side, I put a big pillow between my legs, then put the heating pad on the pillow. If you have two heating pads it's even better. You can put one on each side of the pillow to get both legs.

As much as it hurts to walk etc. I try to stretch out my legs as much as I can. Sometimes, some days I can't move at all, but if I can, I try to. Believe me, I keep a toothbrush etc. downstairs here where I am most of the time because I can't make it up to my bedroom/bathroom some days. Leg pain is horrible!

BTW- "moving" your legs, does not mean overdoing it, running errands for other people, cleaning the house etc.!!! =)

I would "think" that your osteo-arthritis would be a huge contributor to your knee pain. Is there something that can be done for that?

I hope you find some relief soon!!

I have had both of my knees replaced. I have never regretted it. I had the rt. one done in Nov.'07 and the left one in Sept. '08.
The muscles get sore around my knees from the fibro, but I can walk now without excruciating pain in my knees.
Everything else hurts when I walk much, but not my knees.

I am going to need a hip replacement before long, and I just hope I do as well with it.

Rosemarie, please consider this option, because the longer you wait the more damage you are doing to your knees.
I noticed you had lost your ins. and was to get some before long. I would get them done as soon as I could get the ins. to pay.

    Hugs from ((((((cathugs)))))
