I want to say a big thankyou to all of you for your posts and the information you share. I have learned so much!!

I was diagnosed with FM a few months ago. At first I was so unwilling to accept the diagnosis and was in disbelief that there was so little that could be done to help me in the way of treatments.

I finally went searching and found this message board (and will forever be grateful I did). I have been reading posts for weeks now and realized several things along the way and would like to share them with you.

I believe I have had CFS since I was a child. I didn't know what it was until I read about it here and it has been like light bulbs going off for me reading about it. It makes my life make sense .... all these years I thought it was all due to depression even though I have told more than one professional that I was the happiest depressive I had every met. All this time it was mostly fatigue and CFS symptoms.

I went to the doctor today after gaining so much knowledge from all of you and left feeling totally validated and well just plain happy because she agreed with me about the CFS and the symptoms that go along with and is very willing to work with me in trying different therapies and drugs to make my life the best life I can achieve.

I have such renewed hope. Not for a cure but that maybe I will find something that works better for me that will improve the quality of my life. Just finding out I have a doctor who is willing to work with me feels fabulous. I hope that all of you out there who have not found the medical support don't give up... keep looking for it in a doctor ... it is so worth it. Just the validation alone seems to feel great!... no it's not all in my head... no I am not just lazy... and I have a name for it.

It may seem silly to feel so giddy just to have a name for it but I am .... and it is because of you guys and your posts and great information.

Just wanted to say a humungous THANKYOU!!!!!!

    Diana

    Hi Diana,

Finding a doc and getting much-needed validation is a big deal! I'm really happy for you. That will help your mental outlook in dealing with CFIDs, which can have positive effects in improving your health. Not a cure, but I think there is at least a tiny correlation between our mental outlook and how we feel. Feeling happy doesn't hurt, and it can only help, even if just a little bit. Great news!

    Much love, Erika

I feel the same way as you - being part of a community with others who have CFS really does affirm, confirm/validate so much of what we are going through...

I was diagnosed 10 years ago but it wasn't until I joined an online community of other CFS'ers that I 'came out of the closet' (to borrow a term) with regard to my illness. I had gotten so many misdiagnoses over the years, that I dismissed the CFS one as I did the others and it wasn't until I heard of others symptoms and experiences that I realized - wow, that specialist all those years ago was right! What a great feeling it was to not feel 'crazy'! I hadn't shared my diagnosis with anyone until recently, not even my husband.

Additionally, recently the CDC has confirmed that not only is CFS 'real', but can be very disabling and they are embarked on an awareness campaign (which you probably already know about)...this has already spilled over into the medical community, from my experience, and hopefully it will lead to increased awareness among the medical community and public in time, so we don't have to deal with all of those doubters some of us have been subjected to for way too long. Another shot in the arm to make us 'giddy' (LOL - I love that term).

I'm rooting for you - for all of us!

    Good going!

    Take good care.

    Warmly,
    S.

I love your post .It made me feel so happy because I Know, that these boards really do help people. I also found this board by surfing after I was given a DX.There are wonderful people here with so much knowledge to share.
I think if our doctors were to come here they could find all kinds of information about these DD that would help find a cure or at least a better understanding of what we all live with.

Anyhow welcome to our world you seem like a very positive person come and share anytime, you have the time.
