    Hi all,
I was wondering what your personal opinion is on muscle relaxants. I have been using Soma 350 (carisoprodol) for many years. I now take 2 every 8 hours. I think I have about gone the distance with them. I took flexeril for a time with no help or relief.

Anyone have a suggestion I can mention to my Doctor next visit.

    Thanks and God bless.

My pain doctor had me try Zanaflex. It is actually for individuals with spinal cord injuries. I don't have a spinal cord injury, but it works better than anything. I have been on Soma and Flexeril and this work better.

It may be worth a shot for you to ask. My doctor is this weird kind of specialist that works on total rehabilitation and quality of life. It is something like a physiatrist (?). I work for a medical group and they say it is the "up and coming" type of specialist.

I have tried probably every muscle relaxer out there.

Right now I take Soma 350 during the day for spasms. It does not make me tired at all.

Another one I tried that worked pretty well and didnt make me drowzy was Robaxin.

At night, I take Zanaflex. Zanaflex is one of the stronger, more potent muscle relaxers. I love Zanaflex. I am on a somewhat high dosage because I use it at bedtime to help me sleep also. I take 8 mg at bedtime. The tablets come in 4 mgs. and they are scored into fours. You could try taking a much lower dose...lower than 4 mg. during the day...and a higher dose at night which will also help you sleep.

With the Zanaflex, I can feel every muscle in my body relaxing. It is a wonderful feeling. This is by far the best muscle relaxant I have tried.

    Take Care,
    Stephanie

800mg 3 times a day. I think it's a joke or a sugar pill. It does not help. I have tried up to 3 at one time when things have been bad and it barely affects me then. I have just went to using as needed, but I really need to try something else.

Zanaflex comes as low as 2 mg. That is what I am on, and occassionally I take 1/2 a pill (1 mg) during the day and that helps.

I really hope you find something that works.

It takes time to work (give it at least three months). That, combined with Sinequan, really helped with my FM.

I wouldn't meet the FM criteria now. I think this combo (10 mg Flexeril and 20 mg Sinequan) has a lot to do with that.

I was diagnosed in 1991, and most of my pain was gone by 1995.

I have tried quite a few.

Zanaflex works best for me. I normally take 6 mg a couple hours before bedtime. It is very sedating. It helps my muscles relax so I can sleep better.

I could never take it during the daytime, or I couldn't stay awake!!

My doc says if I am feeling really bad, that I can take up to 10 mg. It comes in 2 mg tablets.

BACLOFEN is what works best for me. No hangover effect like flexeril and it comes in a wide range of dosages. I take 20mg at bed time, and 2-3 times during the day if I'm having severe spasms. Most people start out with 5-10mg.

And it's cheap! Finally generic. People with severe spasticity problems, like MS, use it with good effect.
Let us know if you find something that works!

I have been taking Baclofen for over 10 years...10 mg 3times/day. I have tried many others, but it is by far the best I have found for me. Cheap, too!

    Good luck....blessings, Ann

I have used ultram and tramadol in the past and had good luck with both.

I also take zanaflex. I take 1-2mg of it at night. It relaxes me well, but sometimes it makes me feel bad the next day. I must be ready to lay down when I take one, as they make me very groggy. I tried several others, but nothing else seemed to work as well as the zanaflex.

My wife and I take Keygesic-10 from Key Company. Her chiropractor reccommended it as its all natural and it helps. I still have to stretch my muscles but the pills help prevent morining stiffness if i take one before bed. It's alot like aspirin but aspirin free.

I have tried pretty much all Muscle Relaxers & the ones that work best for me is Soma & Robaxin.

My Dr. did not want me to stay on Soma, so he started switching me to different ones & the only one that works without making me drowsy is Robaxin. I take 2-3 a day.

Good luck in finding what works for you.

I take Zanaflex at night and valium during the day for muscle spasms! I don't get a "hangover" feeling the next day from the Zanaflex. If I take valium at night, it's hard for me to get up in the a.m.
