I wil be off to one of my doctors soon. I just noticed a blood test I had done recently - called RDW (I think it is something with the Red Blood Cells), anyway it came back HIGH.

Does anyone know what this means or have had this test before?

    Just wondering....
    Thanks as always!

Hi, I have had this test many times. I believe it has to do with the size and shape of the cells. Mine is never normal. When I am in a flare the level is higher then usual. I have cfids and I have read that the cells have been found in some to be abnormally shaped. Maybe you should check with your Dr. about this test. Good luck, Jess

...is a calculation of the variation in the size of your RBCs (red blood cells).

In some anemias the amount of variation in RBC size along with variation in shape causes an increase in the RDW.

Here is a good site for lab test Q&A.
