by Fannie Flagg. I really liked her novel, Standing in the Rainbow, so I'm looking forward to this one.

Mezombie suggested we read Tony Hillerman's THE SHAPE SHIFTER in March. Good idea; that way, we won't have to vote again.

but I liked Fannie Flagg's Standing in the Rainbow so much that I'll have to vote for Can't Wait to Get to Heaven.

Hey, I'll go with the flow and vote for the Fannie Flagg book.

Ken: Maybe we can read the Tony Hillerman one in March?

I really would like to read and discuss both!

Well I HAVE to say Can't Wait.... as I recommended it. It really is a Laugh out loud book. I think it would make the BEST movie, I can see Cathy Bates starring as the daughter and don't know who for the maon character as she has to be big and old.

Anyway I vote for it, plus it will give me chance to read The MONK book as I alreday did the Fannie Flagg one.

Just read of a book called "The Knife Thrower's Assistant" (or Daughter as Ken might say) by Ronnie Claire Edwards.

The forward is by our own favorite Fanny Flagg. Couldn't tell if the book is a novel or a memoir. Fanny says it is written in "Oklahoma Gothic" whatever that means.

At any rate it is allegedly funny. I'm checking w/ the Los Angeles library right now to see if they have it.

The library has it listed in its catalog, but if you want to check it out you are told: We do not have a print copy for one of various reasons.

Anyways it is listed under biography.

Probably the author displays a keen wit.[This Message was Edited on 01/29/2007]

I checked my library and discovered there wasn't much of a wait for the CD version of the book.

    Hey, works for me!

That is neat that you ordered both.
Tell Dar I hope she feels better soon. I've been feeling especially crummy lately myself.

"Can't Wait" a couple months ago. Have requested it from the library as my Alzheimering memory has already forgotten most of it.

Just finished Dave Barry's Christmas Book. A very short book w/ a very long title:

The Shepherd, the Angel, and Walter the Christmas Miracle Dog.

Especially appealing for those who want to revisit Christmas past or spend time w/ dogs. Warning: may make you cry, laugh, or both.

Thanks for the well wishes. I do feel a bit better today. I can even type! Sorry you're feeling crummy as well. Maybe it's the time of year or something!

    I'll get the book today.

Update: Just ordered the book from ebay for 10 bucks including shipping. It's not available at any of my local libraries because it's such a popular book! So I guess we picked a good one![This Message was Edited on 02/01/2007]

Wow! I put a hold on the CD version of "Can't Wait to Get to Heaven" through my library on Monday, and received an email letting me know it was ready for me to pick up on Wednesday!

If I'd tried to get the book version, I would be waiting for quite a while, I suspect.

Dar: Glad you're feeling a little better. I'm doing a little better this weekend, too.

Mezombie: Isn't quick service great? My library is like that, too.

You fooled me and it doesn't take much these days! You added that part about what MeZombie said AFTER you posted originally, right. lol

I'm ordering them from the library now.

I suppose that would have been confusing! I did add it as an update after the voting. Glad you're reading both with us.

re-reading "Can't Wait". Read it only a few months ago. I find I have almost no recollection of it. Good grief!

Maybe I'll try some of the recipes in the back.

Glad you got your Fannie today. Wait, that sounds funny.
How are things up in Michigan? Isn't "Up in Michigan" the title of a Hemingway story? I hope you're slump is ending and you and Dar are both doing better.

I got my copy of Can't Wait at the library on Sunday, but haven't started it yet.

Didn't get my fannie yet,(that does sound funny!) but got an email saying it has been shipped. So I haven't started reading it yet either. But I will as soon as it gets here!
