Borrelia miyamotoi Disease in the Northeastern United States: A Case Series

    Borrelia burgdorferi is the bacteria that causes Lyme disease.

    Borrelia miyamotoi is a different Borrelia species, can cause very similar symptoms and would not show up on a Lyme test.

    Technically, people who have a Borrelia miyamotoi infection do not have Lyme disease since it is a different species of Borrelia.

    Borrelia miyamotoi is a recently recognized infection and it is likely that many new cases will emerge.
