Please bear with me, I'm new to both FM (many years of vague symptoms before dx) and this great, caring group. Tonight I am experiencing both my usual tingling feet, and exhaustion, but my leg & feet muscles seem so totally fatigued that the pain in my muscles burns horribly. Is this total muscle overload? The rest of my body is sore, but the lower legs & feet unbearable. I've never in 3 1/2 years felt this bad, usually take no pain meds on any regular basis. My 13-yr-old daughter's school play is tomorrow & Fri. nite & I'm stressed over feeling that I won't have the energy to make it thru those evening performances. I can't remember ever feeling this bad before. Does everyone have this burning, completely fatigued muscle feeling w/FM? As I said, this is new, so please bear with my stupidity on the subject, I'm still learning. My symptoms were mainly neurological in the past (tingling, muscle twitching, hands feeling swollen) with mild flu-like pain, now I feel I'm in a new downward painful spiral with this, and it is so discouraging because it's like a flare that isn't letting up, it's just getting worse.... Thanks for letting me vent, I don't think I've ever been this discouraged. I've got a local support group that I just found in my area (I moved 6 mos. ago) meets Sat. & I'm so looking forward to people locally who "get" this. Still looking for the right Dr., no luck yet. Thanks for the on-line support, I'm very glad to have this resource, too...

Pam...I am sorry that your pain has intensified. I do know exactly what you are talking about. I am new to this too...and it never ceases to quit throwing me curves. Like you, I have the tingling, spasms, and fatigue....and then at other times, I have the most horrendous burning, zapping pain. At the time, it seems I will never be able to stand up under it, but thankfully, it has subsided sometimes with in days, sometimes in weeks, so far. I have four children and know how much you don't want to let a child down.
I have begun to take stronger pain meds on those days I really need them--as there is no ribbon of valor for enduring that kind of pain.
Hope you are feeling better, soon,
    karen

pain is the worse of the worse. I have the same symptoms as you described. I keep thinking maybe I have something other than fibro. Something they know about and can cure me. I have such pain in every muscel and joint. The past two mornings my rb cage shoulders and neck are the worst. My calves and thigh muscels just burn and burn. I am so stiff in the morning i can barely walk. I take pain meds. somtimes up to 5 a day. Sometimes on good days only two. I find if I can catch the pain in the beginning of the cycle i get better faster. If i hold off and don't take the pain meds i get wrse and the pain cycle hits hare. I am learning. The pain medication does not do anything for me except cut the pain. i feel very blessed that I have it. With out it I could not function. There are days even with the pain meds i can't function.
Welcome to the board and good luck. ((((HUGS)))) jean ann

    Hi, Pam:

So sorry to hear that you are suffering so much right now. I know what pain you are talking about and it's the worst. I've been managing my pain somewhat with Ultracet (there is no mg. on the bottle). The FM specialist I've been seeing just doubled the dosage and it is helping me more than it was. I have read that many people with FM are low in magnesium which helps to decrease our sensitivity to pain. So on my own I am taking it twice a day and will see how this helps. The RDA for women is 320 mg. When I read what foods were high in magnesium, they were not things I ate every day so realized I was probably deficient. As you know, when you are in pain you will try almost anything.

I know about social events. I have often had something coming up and wonder if I will be able to attend. I will say a prayer for you that you will be better soon and able to attend your daughter's activity.

It's important to realise, that while burning sensations, can be attributed to FMS it could also be a sign of rheumatoid arthritis, or even both. Always get it checked out. Early treatment of rheumatoid arthritis is important.
Note: I have personally noticed diet to be a major factor, in the severity of symptoms in Fms, especially the burning muscles. Note any reaction you have to certain foods, and if they are causing you problems leave them out.
