Hey there. Could you pleae explain the "porch" to me, I sorta get the gist of it, but how do you start, let's say, a thread? I check this board out, and evryone seems so nice/caring. Thanks rockgor, I'm sure you remember me from some of my post, that you've always replied too....................Well hello everydobby.

Of course I remember you. Even w/ my poor, old Alzheimer brain.
    How ya doin'?

Here's the scoop on the porch. Sometime ago, 4 years maybe, a few of us
were talking about the good old days, small towns, when people were friendly,
the world was safer, and people often sat on their front porch in the evening
and visited w/ folks who were out for a stroll.

And that's how it got started. The porch has no thread or topic. People drop
by and talk about whatever they like, e.g., kids, relatives, pets, meds, TV,
music, books, weather, jobs, school, etc.

Sometimes people do a long post. Sometimes all one can do is just say, "I'm
here but not feeling so hot. Hope to be back tomorrow."

Some posters show up a couple times in a day. Some folks drop by once a
month. There are no rules. Everybody is welcome.

Have you read any books by Philip Gulley? A couple of them have porch in the title.
He thinks the country would be better off if houses had porches.

So drop by. Pull up a rocker or sit in the glider. Have a glass of lemonade. Chat.

So glad you took the time to explain the "porch" to me, that was so kind. And by the way, you explain things very well. So now that I know what is going on I most definately will drop in. You take care and I look forward to spending some time here.

Seems like after WWII (or was it during Depression) that houses were no longer built with porches. Quite a few porches here in my town, but not used too much. I have a small porch, but also a huge hedge surrounding house.

    Verandas were nice too.

    cheers, mr Bill

Haven't seen you for a while. Where you been keeping yourself?
I bet you've been out sitting on the lanai.

That's what the Golden Girls used when they wanted to sit around.

You ever go to Gamblers Anonymous? I heard one of their 12 steps goes
like this: It's ok to hedge your bets, but never bet your hedges.

Does that sound right? Maybe I should look it up.
