Can anyone recommend a Naperville, IL FM Doc?

Hi, I'm in the early stage of my FM "discovery" and am so blessed to have found this board! I've learned so much in just one short afternoon. It's obvious I need a Doc who believes in and understands FM. I live near several Illinois suburbs with progressive medical facilities (Naperville, Hinsdale, Downers Grove) but did not see any Docs from those areas on the Good Doc List. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for being there...Sharon

Sharon--my onset was 7 months ago---and I tried the "progressive medical facilities", endlessly, with no results. uh hummm ---disasterous results...lol
Try support groups in your area, asking members for referrals. Type in "Fibromyalgia Chronic Fatigue Specialist Illinois" in a favorite search engine such as Yahoo or Goggle. Be prepared for lots of hits, write down the good ones, eliminate the others. Make calls or email those that sound positive--asking how many fibro/cfs patients they are currently seeing. Ask if they use integrated therapy, and any other questions you may have. This is the only way I discovered---a Good Doc, and it saves wasted energy, frustration, an empty pocket book, and one's sanity--seeing disbelievers. Another route, is to use those on the Good Dr.s List, and be prepared to drive many extra miles---it is really worth it! Mine is a 4 hr. trip---but has made all the difference in the world. I now, have a diagnosis---and more importantly treatment with improvement.
    Best wishes,
    Karen

The above advice is really good!
How far are you from Chicago? Are you interested in cutting-edge alternative medicine? The king of the alternative M.D.'s is in the Chicago area. His name is Dr. Joseph Mercola, M.D. I'm not allowed to give out his website, but I'm sure you can figure it out eventually using his last name and a dot com.

    Hi Sharon,
I have been going to a chiropractor who is also an RN and a certified Acupuncturist. she has massage therapist at her office which is not a cold AND CLINICAL place it is truly a healing environment. She is very knowledge about fibro and has helped me more than the m.d. I have gone to. Her office is located in Warrenville IL. If you are interested in her name please let me know.

Thank you all so much for your responses. I will check out the web page for the Doc in Chicago (I'm only about an hour from downtown).
Yes Wander, I'd also like the name of the chiro in Warrenville (only 30 minutes from my home). I currently have a chiro I love, but need to talk with him in greater detail about FMS...he's actually the one who mentioned it to me, which is how I started my research...I still have not been "officially" dx'd (my GP thinks it may be but won't label it) but can relate to nearly every symptom I've read about on this board.
Glad to be among friends...I'll keep you posted.

Hi Sharon, sorry I missed your first post, so am taking this opportunity to send a big welcome to you.

Very glad to hear you are enjoying the board and its group of wonderful, helpful members.

Personally, I can't help with a doctor, but am sure others in your area will be glad to share with you.

Again, welcome to the board, and hope we hear from you often.

    Shalom, Shirl

I hope you will consider getting a diagnosis by a Rheumatologist. I see Dr. Robert Katz at Rush Pres in Chicago. He knows Fibro and how to treat it.

The name of my chiropractor is Dr. Toner at The Quality Life Center in Warrenville. She is quite knowledgelable with fibro and knows how to treat it.
    Good luck

Wander, thanks for the information. Yes, I will plan to see a Rheumatologist for a dx. I wasn't sure how/where to begin so thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

My mother-in-law saw Dr. Katz yrs ago for her lupus. She was put on an "experimental" drug plan and has been in remission for about 10 yrs or better. From what I here Dr. Katz is a very good Doc.

Thanks again. Will keep you posted.

    God Bless,
    Sharon
