    Hey All,

I'm really in a mess. I'm having a colonoscopy and have been posting about it and was getting myself all worked up & stressed over it and then WHAM! I suddenly realize that it's next Thursday the 20th that I have it and not this Thursday. Here I didn't sleep much last night and I mixed up a bunch of Jello because I'm suppose to be on a clear liquid diet 3 days before my surgery and just making all these plans.

    I feel so DUMB now.

Sorry, for all the drama the last few days and now to think I have to go through it all over next week. I don't know why I can't stop crying this morning except it just hit me that I'm in such a FOG. I'm surprised that I can even remember my name this morning.

Please just keep me in your Prayers,

Please let Grandma6 feel your comforting embrace, soothe her nerves and give her Faith that her colonoscopy will come back with good results and be over before she knows it!

    In Jesus name we pray,

Thank you God for answering this prayer!

Hi Grandma... sorry you are so upset about the colon thing(can't spell it). I was so afraid when I had mine , but the doctor gave me something in an IV and I didn't know anything that went on. The worst part was the preparation. Taking all that yucky stuff to clean you out.
You may as well stay in the bathoom til it's over. Because of my age the doc. said I didn't have to come back for another test, everything was fine this time. Try to think that although the prep is awful, you want to know if anything is wrong so it can be fixed, and this is the way it has to be done. Nothing hurt. It was just the having to rush to the john so much because of all the stuff you had to take to clean you out. I will certainly pray for you and know that you will be fine. Trust in the LOrd.
    Love, spmary

your not dumb!!! Any medical procedure can be scary for "healthy" people. "us" being already sick can make it all the worse. But as a nurse and one who had a colonosopy in my late 20's can say it is really not that bad. I actually had a great sleep and some really funny moments as the meds wore off. If done right you wont feel a it would be ok to talk with the anathesialogist before hand and explain your anxiey so he can make sure you are good and asleep. (I have a problem with waking up in the middle of surgeries so I made sure to tell them that b4...I woke up in the middle of my tonsilectomy and it scared the bee'geesys out of me so bad I riped my iv out so I am very sure now to let them know that for some reason I must metabolize the meds faster) I will say a special prayer for you!
Try to calm down...we are here for you and the Lord will never leave your side! On that I can promise...because he did!
    Hugs and Love

    Thanks spmary,

However, the reason, (and I know I should have had a colon screening before I had any problems), I am even getting this done is becasue of some major problems with my bowels and I really don't want to go into the details. But the specialist my doc sent me too for my consultation before this proceedure said that from what I told her of my symptoms and my FMS and my past that she doesn't think the colonoscopy is going to fix the problem.

I couldn't believe that the first time I see this doc she already is giving me bad news. What she said was from her experience with FMS patients that I most likely do not have any polyps but the nerve endings in my colon that is suppose to help push out the bm are weak or damaged and what will proably happen is that they will have to take that link of my colon out. But she will know more after the colonoscopy and she has actually been in there.

Well, I tell you, I am getting this procedure because I know I need it to find out what's going on but I have already told my hubby that if she finds anything else besides polyps, (during the procedure if polyps are found they remove them then), I am not going to let her do any kind of surgery on me later. I will go get a 2nd or even a 3rd opinion. I was pretty shocked that she would even mention anything on down the road until she sees for herself what things look like. Don't you think that is strange for a doctor to discuss what she doesn't know for sure????

Anyway, we know a surgeon that is a specialist in colon & rectum surgery. What is strang is he grew up in our small town and I use to babysit him when I was in high school and he is very well thought of in his field in Wichita, Kans. My
son was in a serious auto accident when he was 20 yrs old and this doctor was the head surgeon in the hospital where my son was and even though my son did not require his kind of surgery, he would stop in his hospital room just to check on us every day we were there. All the other doc's in the hospital that would see my son spoke so highly of him & were curious why he was seeing my son becasue they all knew he had nothing to do with my sons case. He even goes by the hospital after church service on Sunday's with his family to check in on any of his patience well being. Great bed-side manner and a true Christian.

So after my colonoscopy and if they find anything bad, I am going to him. The only reason I didn't go to him 1st is because my family doctor, (for over 20 years, plus his wife & kids are close friends), wants me to get this colonoscopy now and the doc I know won't be back in town for a couple of weeks.

Sorry to ramble on but my nerves and stress level are high and like my husband says when I'm stressed I rattle on and on. Are yo like that or do you know someone that rattles when they are nervous?

Thanks for your concern and time,

    God Bless....Grandma6

I was really stressed about my colonoscopy a few weeks ago.I totally understand the anxiety. You will get through it like we all do. Remember, You WILL get though it.
The surgeon you describe sounds great and IF you need surgery, you already know that you will be in good hands.

It's OK to keep posting here about how you feel. Any procedure is a little harder with Fibro. Hang in there. I'll be sending up good thoughts.

The IV was great(Fentanyl and Versed), I was not aware of the procedure, I had pancakes afterward and shopped at the antique mall later. You Can Do It!!!!

I can see that you are in a rough season of life and it sure is nice when they are past and we can get back on more familiar ground but until then let us ask God that he will protect you mentaly, physicaly and spiritualy. That he will give you a spirit of calm in your heart and mind, and that he will walk with you through your trials. We ask this in Jesus name.Amen.

it isn't so bad. I had one done a few weeks ago - didn't remember a thing. Also didn't want to wake up and eat after; I just wanted to sleep some more.

I can't believe you have to follow a liquid diet for 3 days! I only had to do that the day before, and nothing except a few sips to take my meds the day of.

The thing that bothered me the most (except for the constant trips to the bathroom) was where the IV was put into the back of my hand - it hurt for 2 weeks! Nothing else bothered me at all.

    Hi there Grandma Six.........

I would like to tell you first that I've had a colonscopy
a couple of times and it's not that bad an experience.
Although, it can be a little embarassing :*)
It's a good procedure to have done for everybody over 50 yrs old,as it can check for pre-cancerous conditions.
Also, they can detect chrones disease or colitis.

But the real reason I replied to your post is that I'm very
interested in what your specialist said quote:

What she said was from her experience with FMS patients
that I most likely do not have any polyps but the nerve
endings in my colon that is suppose to help push out the
bm are weak or damaged and what will proably happen is
that they will have to take that link of my colon out.
But she will know more after the colonoscopy and she has
    actually been in there.

You see I have the same problems with my bowel and have already suspected a problem with the nerve servicing my
bowels being the culprit causing my IBS.
I have nerve problems affecting my back, legs, neck, feet,
hands etc, so why wouldn't the problem with my bowels is nerve related.
All of this is caused by FMS.

Also, I have nerve related problems affecting other digestive organs as well.

So could you articulate as clearly as possible exactly what your specialist said about bowels and nerves and FMS.
It would be very helpful for me and perhaps others.
