    Hi all,

As you know, I have a vitamin D deficiency. For the 2nd time now, my Dr. told me to see a gastro Dr. to be tested for celiac (which I've already been tested for, when I had an endoscopy).

I have 2 questions: Is vitamin D deficiency common w/celiac, and which is the best test to detect it?

as w/ most standard tests, it won't detect unless there is substantial damage to the intestines. You preferrably don't want to let it get that far, by then the damage is sometimes irreversible.

A stool or saliva test from a specialty lab seems to be more accurate, but these will cost out of pocket. there is a place called Enterolab that you should be able to google on the net. They do a mail in test. Yes, really, you mail in your poo to them and they analyse it.
