If I am reading correctly, if the new article(s) recently published indicate that CFS can be identified by specific gene expression, then wouldn't it stand to reason that, because Lyme or EBV or whatever else also can be specifically identified, we can have BOTH CFS and something else?

Hasn't it sort of been that if you had any of these other things, doctors would eliminate you from the 'CFS' category?

it is interesting that the CDC is saying "gene expression" rather than genes. I don't profess to know much, but I think there is a difference. Would having lyme, mycoplasma, EBV, or whatever, cause a certain gene expression? Seems like it might. Jen102

I'm sure you'll get lots of opinions...

So here's mine: CF/FM is a dumping ground for the effects of stealth pathogens, be they viral and/or bacterial, and from what I've read there's not usually just one, but other opportunistic co-infections that may come along with each other or find a (major) opportunity to proliferate later.

Lab tests for the most part just aren't sensitive enough or the right kind/s to pick up these infections because they are good at hiding in the body, as we know.

All I can say is that my son (chronic lyme) had all my symptoms plus more developing...

I don't doubt for a minute that he'd have been dx'd with CFIDS/FM if I hadn't skipped all the specialists 'in between' and took him straight to a lyme-literate MD and got him tested after our internist found all the 'normally run' blood tests were 'normal'... just like mine have been.

BTW, the average spent by a person with chronic lyme just to get that 'positive' diagnosis is $65,000 according to one association... in between first feeling bad and getting dx'd, these people have been dx'd with all sort of other 'autoimmune conditions'... that their symptoms resolve with treatment for lyme and coinfections, or mycoplasma, or whatever, says it all for me.

    all the best,

All the viruses and bacteria etc. weaken the body so that our body can't overcome our bad genes, thus causing other health problems.
