Based on my own experience long ago with this illness and subsequent research on why my "accidental cure" worked, I suggest looking into the subject of "mild cortisol deficiency" or as some would call it, "adrenal fatigue." Check out Dr. Teitelbaum on this subject, as he is a specialist as well as a former CFS patient.
With 4x as many women having CFS, you can't deny a possible hormone connection, and most CFS symptoms are similar to many caused by a stress-hormone imbalance or cortisol deficiency. CFS usually follows a viral illness, unusual stress or injury, pointing to the stress-hormone connection. Also check out the research of endocrinologist William Jefferies and Dr. Cleare, professor of Psychopharmacology and Affective Disorders, King's College, London. This whole approach to CFS emphasizing adrenal-hormone disorder has the most complete scenario for diagnosis and treatment, but is still very controversial.

Hey hermitlady, your choice of name says it all! Thanks sooo much for your response. I guess I'm kinda overwhelmed by how much knowledge is available on the website $ forum, but it makes sense that reading is the way to go. I doint have FM- I do however sometimes have severe muscle pain which goes away before long. When this happens, because its soo awfully sore I ALWAYS send up a little prayer for everyone in the world suffering with FM asking that their suffering will end! Take good care hermitlady.... gentle hugs $ kisses, MYsecret xxx

You know, the terms "FM" and "ME" are pretty new considering that "unexplained chronic-fatigue" has been discussed in medical literature for over a century. "FM" symptoms used to just be included in CFS-definitions, and as for M.E.? Really, brain-and-spinal-cord inflammation? The "encephalitis" part of that term is actually from an old, outdated CFS-definition, I recently learned. Frankly, I think all the new terms are just an attempt to sound more "official," whereas CFS is still a very legitimate illness whose definition hasn't changed much over the years. I'd be curious as to your particular symptoms and history. Good luck!

Well, you've found a good site to do some research. There are lots of articles in the library here, and you can also search the message boards for info.

Lots of knowledgable people here living w FM/CFS, all kinds of different experiences w treatments, meds, etc. We all react differently to these things, so a lot of the time people have to customize their own treatments.

I was diagnosed w both FM/CFS about 16 yrs ago, but I know I had symptoms for yrs before that. I hope you have good luck w your info search and treatment.

We're here for support, lots of great folks who truly understand how it feels to be living w these dds.
