I have had chest pains of varying degree for over two weeks. This morning while trying to take a short walk around the neighborhood, I felt this weird warmth and tingling radiating from my chest into my face. Afterward the right side of my face felt like ir had been dusted ewith Novacaine. I went back home adn tried to continue my
duties. Decided to run a few errands it came back on for a few seconds while I was in the bank. Called doctor offfice.
He's out of town. Staff suggested I go to emergency room.
It sort of quickly passed over again. Came home son was
vomiting all over the bathroom and had fever (the flu).
Decided I would nurse him since I felt a little better.

My face still somewhat numb. Chest still hurts. My brother is telling me to go to emergency room. I hate to get there
and fidn out it's just gas or another manisfestation of
FMS. I will only be sent home, probably with another pill to take.

Just wanted to know if anyone else has had this facial numbness. Should I be alarmed?

I experienced chest pains once that sent me to the ER... they couldn't find anything wrong with me, this was before my diagnosis... also sometimes I get a feeling in my chest as though I were being stuck with a hot poker... Now the face, sometimes I feel a funny tingling sensation usually on the left side of my face. It feels like electricity... also on the tip of my nose. ( I know sounds strange ) also one day as I came out of the market into the cold air my lips felt like they were numbed with novacaine... it really felt creepy. Also i notice I have difficultly drinking directly out of a water bottle... I always dribble all over myself, which I didn't used to do. It's as though my lips are weak ????? hope I helped !!!
    Good Luck Sue

I do too. I have both. Chest pains come and go. Mine feel like I am having a heartattack or reflux! Scares me, but it comes and goes.
The facial numbness is something I have posted about before. I had to go to doc for this one. My face, around my mouth and lips and chin started tingling and loosing feeling, like it was asleep. He came and went till part of it stayed, leaving my right 1/2 of lip and above, numb or asleep. He did MRI and drew blood, and that is when he found my thyroid way too high and blamed that. Well after that the tingling started again on other side and moved down my entire body! By end of day, my legs were asleep and feet. I was scared. I called next morning, and he gave me antivan!! I was mad, but he said anxiety can make this whatever it is worse, so calm down! I did not take it.
And I met a woman who told me to get off Cenestin (estrogen) that this caused hers. I did. Been off it 2 months now. Ever so often I have a slight sensation on my face, but not like before, but I still have the heavy pain in my chest and when breathing deeply.
I am not sure if it was the cenestin or my thyroid. Just another wierd symptom with this DD.

Went to see my doctor about the chest pain to facial numbness episode. He has ordered carotid artery ultrascound and MRI ASAP. After I told him that both parents father (deceased) and mother (severely disabled) both had strokes, he sort of went into panic mode.
I feel better now. Been reading on the web that it could have been a TIA (mini-stroke) going by. If it was of this
nature, I think it was mini-mini, make it micro-stroke.
I also read about brain spasms where the tiniest of brain arteries go into little spasms...can be anything in severity from migraine to little stroke. I am not getting
worreid nor will I claim it...it only upsets you more.
Thanks to those who replied to my initial posting.

like that should not be taken lightly. Three years ago, at the age of 47, my husband had a heart attack. He had been having chest pains on and off for a few weeks and decided to ignore it, probably denial on his part. There's a huge history of heart attacks, strokes, blood vessel disease in his family, on both sides, yet he didn't get himself checked out. He was fortunate, he survived his heart attack, in part due to the fact that my daughter happened to be at home when it happened and call 911 right away. He had a 90% blockage in his right coronary artery and has a stent implant. I worry about this constantly, because he still has not completely stopped smoking, so it's like I'm always waiting..........
    Do get yourself checked out, don't take chances with your health. It can be so fragile. Good luck with your tests; let us know how they turn out! {{{{{{hugs}}}}}}

I spent friday night in ER.
I started feeling "weird" early in the day.
VERy weak. as if I could faint. light headed like I was not gettgn enough oxygen.

it subsided after I ate dinner. SO I thought it was low blood sugar.
at 10 pm I took some generic robitussin ( haven't taken it in like 15 years. thought it would help with what I THINK is post nasal drip.... causing me snoring and apnea ?????)

anyway at 10:30 I yelled to my husband "hospital NOW"
the chest pain I was having was like an elephant tap dancing on my chest.
I also got ths warm tingly sensation from lower abdomen up through my face. as if my face was sliding off the skull. REALLY freaky.

ER did an EKG that was NORMAL. so apparently no heart attack (thank GOD).
drs think I have acid reflux. BUT I do'nt have any heart burn feelings unless I eat spicy or junk... drs. said it doesn't matter. ( is this true????)

I think it was an alergic reaction to the cough medicine personally.

When I FINALLY got home and TRIED to go to bed when I laid down the warm tingly sensation started again, but was from top of head to tip of toes. reallyscarey.

whenI got out of bed adn was standing i felt better.
I was scared to try to fall asleep. thought I wouldn't wake up.
I konw that sounds rediculous but I was terrified.

ended up sleeping sitting up on couch. although it DID feel good for my back!

I wonder if I have angina, reflux or maybe even a gall bladder problem, or even thyroid condition ( lots of hypothyroid symptoms have been present for a LONG time.)

anyway. I know there is a dr here that could shed some light on this for me.

can I have reflux and NOT notice "heartburn" yet it still be a problem???
is angina always a worry or is it only sometimes????

please shed some light on this for me.

I am hoping to get an appt with dr first thing in the morning.
I still find it VERY odd that the ONLY thing drs did was EKG.
no blood work, no ultrasound nothing
although they did want to do a chest film I was looking at a 4 hour wait. it was already 2:30 AM and my husband had not slept in over 24 hours. and I was feeling better (chest p ains had subsided totally) so i asked to go home. I was STARVING and did not want vending machine snacks and I needed my meds bc my back was killing me.

do they HAVE to make hospital beds so incredibly hard?
I would have been better off on teh concrete floor!

hope I get some advice here. Especially from the midically trained folks.

I am feeling better by the way. Praise GOD!

    Time for some rest now.
    God Bless,

Here is the latest update. Went to the cardiologist for the first time last week. Before I could complete the treadmill test/echocardiogram, he literally yanked me off
treadmill and put me on exam table. Next thing I knew he
stuck a bronchodilator down my mouth and squirted. He
suspects I am mildly asthmatic. Odd, this will be my
half-century mark on the planet this year and no other
physician had noticed this before. Have to go back on
    Thursday for treadmill/echocradiogram part 2.
P.S. MRI & ultrasound showed nothing (these done over two weeks ago.). My gynie suggested that I ask my GP to send
me to a cardiologist.[This Message was Edited on 01/26/2003]

went to my regualar P CP. first let me say ONE thing...
ok. actually I'm eating a LOT of crow here. ( I hate to admit when I'm wrong, but here goes...)

my pcp who I have often refered to as Dr. Jekyl. did a GREAT job with me today.
for one thing he spent 45 mins with me. (impressive!)
he redid my EKG and listened to my gut with stethascope (ER drs. didn't do that even.?)

he wrote me a rx for pepcid and told me I could take tums if needed. ( by the way. the berry flavored tums aren't bad at all. not so chalky and yucky flavored).

told me to go online to check for a good GERD/reflux diet.
He said to go with a "reputable site".
He said to NOT try any herbals til I asked him.
He did tell me there were some good things out there, but to check with him or a pharmacist).

    he FINALLY earned my respect.
He did say that he thinks FMS is a lousy name ( we all know it's a misnomer of sorts but....)
he said there could be other underlying problems and said that between him and the reumy we'd get it figured out.

he has all my med records form reummy except my labs. he said he din't know why. bc they are sharing it all. ( which is good, saves me time n explaining.)

anyway. i was real impressed when I told him that I was just so worried that i had somethign wrong with my heart and that I just "could NOT cope until I had a second oppinion" and POOF he instantly says lets get another EKG.
    WOW!
he not only showed me the EKG but EXPLAINED it all to me in ENGLISH.
he summed up. that I had a very healthy heart.

I told him I was very interested in quiting smoking. It was funny. he actually jumped up and down and did a "happy dance". LOL

guess I was just seeing him on BAD days ( for one of us at least???)

someone said a while ago that sometiems when we are feeling like crap we perceive a dr. to be uncaring when really they are just not understanding what we are saying.

h etold me to go home and destress. gave me a note to get off work tonight. YEAH!!!!!!!!!

told me to call in any trouble right away. and to call and update him in one week.

Now I feel like such a butthead for having bad mouthed him.
He may not know how I was felt about him before. But if he does I hope my gratitude today makes up for it.
I hope the Lord forgives me for saying such aweful things about him too.

I guess our stress really gets the best of us sometiems.
If the stress gets the BEST of us. all that's left is the WORST of us, which we end up displaying with others.

no wonder so many people ignore us. we always gripe.
first thing I told him is I hope I dont' sound like I came to bitch and moan, but I really thought for sure I had a serious heart problem.

He was REALLY good about understanding that feeling.
    perhaps he's been there before.

ER drs. told me that GERD brings more people into ER than heart attack.
guess that makes me feel more "normal" for a change.

    sorry to have rambled on.

    Hi Ladybird.

I have not long done a post 'Nadh/anxiety/PLEASE HELP' about simular thing.
Not long after xmas i started to get the odd pain or two in my chest. Couple of weeks ago it got so bad i saw my dr, he said it was a trapped nerve and gave me pain killers. They did not help at all. It was causing me so much anxiety i went to the A and E. They did a ECG, xray and blood test. Told me my heart was fine and it was to do with acid. Strange thing is i never in my life had problems with that sort of thing. Anyway i left there reassured but still in pain. Two days later my GP prescribed Zoton, that was 4 days ago. They have not noticably helped that much really. This pain and tight feelings i am getting around chest, back, neck and face and breathing difficulty i am having, i am putting down to anxiety. Trouble is i cant get rid of it. I cant even cry as it hurt so much and only makes me feel so much worse.

Do any of you feel like your a pain and nuisence to the medical team.
Do you feel like you are suffering and nobody seems to be able to help.
Do you feel like your trapped in a body that cant recover from its ill effects on you.
Do you feel that you dont know the differance between ME/DEPRESSION/ANXIETY symptons, to other illness.
DO you feel that everyone is saying to you, it only anxiety, its only tiredness, ITS ONLY ETC ETC!!

    YES to all your questions!

I'm so damn sick and tired of being sick and tired.
I did not NEED another diagnosis.

Although I'm relieved it's NOT my heart,
I'm so frustrated I'm beside myself.

I already gave up my favorite HEALTHY foods years ago when I went to ER for similar thing.
NO more steamed veggies ( they are GOOD FOR ME!)

Now I can't have any form of pasta except once a week in small portions. ( I am mourning the loss of mac and cheese!)

I can have salads but have to leave the tomato off.
    I LOVE tomatos!

I'm so thrilled I married a hunter! My Dr. said I can still have all the venison I want. In fact he said there's no reason to eat any other kind of meat unless I want it.
I do like to have some chicken now and then. I seem to have sprouted antlers from eating so much deer meat. And I think a swishy tail is coming soon.
But at least the dr. said it's perfectly safe as long as I use small portions. ( already do that anyway.)

for all that pain. I suggest you try some antacid. AVOID ones that have alluminum as ingredient!
You may be on some harsh drugs so call a pharmacist to ask about stomach problems in relation to your meds.

My dr. gave me pepcid. Only took it last night, but I did sleep without any trouble. I also eat a tums ( berry flavor is GOOD) if I'm bothered by something I ate. I take it as soon as I feel discomfort.
    seemed to help last ngiht.

also, at least for me... stress reduction is imperative!
I told dr. I can actually feel adrenaline rushing in.
he said that is 90% of my p roblem with my stomach.

so when you get ticked off or reallyflustered tryt o go and relax immediately. take a tums or something.

I also get relief from a cup of yogurt. the active bacteria help me. But ask dr. bc dairy products are usually a no no with ulcer/reflux.
He may sugget you just take acidophalis suppliment.
call and ask dr. first before you take it.

I notice some relief when it's REALLY bad if I take some mylanta. It coats the esophagus enough to feel better.

also NO PEPPERMINT!! it relaxes the LES which causes stomach acid to back up the esophagus.
and NO citrus of any kind.

if you do search on GERD or Acid reflux you will get a lot of info on p roper diet etc.
I found a lot of good info at WebMD.

    Hope your tummy feels better.

    God bless,
    J-bear

It's "ladybird1". Got my echo cardiogram redone.
Diagnosis -- Mitral Valve Prolapse. I had read on other
posts that 75% of FMS patients also have MVP.
Been doing my internet research and there is a lot of
overlap in symptoms. Got to avoid infection from now
on (not that I had been looking for it...smile/grimace).
Since I'm also diagnosed with mild asthma and possibly lupus (both of which also cause chest pain in addition
to MVP & FMS), I'm wondering how I can tell which one is causing the problem on any particular day.
