There was some concern expressed on this forum about latex mattresses causing an allergic response over time. I just saw the following on the Ecobedroom site:

Recently, the news media has reported several cases of allergies to latex products. It's important to understand that all recorded incidents were from medical applications with products produced in a dipped molding process. This is very different from the way latex foam is made. There have been no reported incidents of reactions to the millions of pillows, mattresses, and cosmetic sponges produced by Latex Foam Products in the last 47 years. Latex is truly a safe material used in paint, tires, shoes, toys, underwear, and much more.
