constant bruises...something to worry about?

    i was wondering if this was part of fm,
    i've been getting bruises,
    but they're only on my arms and legs.
    i can tell you, i've been pretty much houseridden
    since i first got sick.

    i never do ANYTHING, and i don't bump into anything,
    but i find yellow-green bruises ALL the time.
    last week i counted almost twenty bruises on my arms and legs.

    the other day i noticed a really weird one,
    it was HUGE. covered most of one side of my thigh,
    and it just looked like someone had slapped me.
    splotchy, not just one huge bruise.

    i've noticed them on my ankles,
    i have them on my arms all the time.
    i don't know if this is part of the fm,
    but i never got them before.
    they just started occuring.

    we were thinking maybe its anemia,
    but i just had SO many tests done a couple months ago,
    when they were first diagnosing me.
    and i take multivitamins everyday,
    the only thing i lack a little bit is calcium,
    cause theres not enough in them.

    anyone had this problem and found the cause?

    Do you take antidepressants? Some list bruising as a side effect. Perhaps you should check this out with your doctor.

    You should have your Doc. do a full blood workup and get this checked out.

    I used to bruise all over for no reason. Vitamin C w/ flavinoids, which are part of the vitamin C complex and are found in colourful fruits and veggies, helps capillary strength. Zinc is the most important though for bruising and is easily displaced when you are meds. I took extra 50 mgs twice daily for years, then got it down to just 50 once daily, this is on top of my multi and whatever supplements. I've tried going w/out the extra zinc, people can be just as wary of high doses of it as iron, but I start to bruise w/in a week of running out.

    It works.

    When I stopped eating gluten, my bruises went away. I read there was a connection between wheat (or gluten, I can't remember which) and briusing.

    My bruises weren't horrible, but they were annoying and other people did notice them.

    I also no longer get canker sores or white stuff on my tonsils.

    I started bruising from Antidepressants..I believe its a blood thinner.
