Hi my name is Michelle. I am 21 yrs old and live in Philadelphia Pa. I have had
constant sore throat for at least 7 yrs now - In Feb of 1997 I had my tonsils and
adenoids removed. It didn't help, later I thought smoking was contributing to the
sore throats - So I quit, It has been 1 1/2 yr. since I had one and I still have sore
throats. Last June I had surgery to correct my deviated septum. Thinking somehow
this was causing them. I have had somewhat less sore throats since however I still
get them constantly. I also have headaches and jaw pain. I have been told I have
TMJ, and that can be affecting my head aches, but I get them to much when my jaw
is not hurting for it to be related. I can't sleep anymore - For the last 2 yrs I have
been taking tyl PM and some kind of muscle relaxer or pain reliever to sleep. I can't
sleep without something. I have tried - it doesn't work. When I do get a good nights
sleep I wake up the next morning with a dry and sore throat sometimes it will go
away throughout the day and others it won't. Also lately I have been getting extreme
dry mouth. This has only been for a month or 2, and it doesn't happen a lot, just
once in a while. In addition to that I have back problems, for the last 5 yrs I have
had a lot of neck pain and upper back pain. I have had MRI's and cat scans and it
says everything is normal, but it hurts. I have a knot like thing in my left shoulder area
that never goes away. I also have in the past 1 1/2 yrs have had hip pain. Mostly in
my left hip, butt, thigh region. I don't know why or how but It gets so bad I can't sit
or lay still. And doing dishes, my lower back gets sore after only a little bit of time
    standing at the sink.
I have been to 3 chiropractors in the last 2 years. For about 1 1/2 yrs I was going to
the chiro at least 3-4 times a week. I have had 2 cortisone injections in my hip. I am
so tired of feeling like this I am 21 years old and everyday after work I have a moist
heating pad on and then at night I apply ice. I was using bengay but it didn't work
that well and I was tired of smelling like a medicine cabinet. As you can see I am in a
lot more pain than most people my age- actually I am in more pain than most 40 yr.
olds. I am also a miserable person. I am not much fun to be around always
complaining about this ache or that pain. My pain has made me miss activities I
wanted to do or stopped me from succeeding in things I could have if it were not for
the pain. Does anyone have any suggestions for me. I am desperate.
    Thanks so much
    Michelle

Ask your doctor to send you to a rheumatologist to be tested.

I have CFS, not fibro, but I don't think sore throats are associate with fibro (they *are* associated with CFS). I could very well be wrong, though. I suggest getting tested for fibro over CFS because your message focuses on your pain, not fatigue or unrefreshing sleep.

Maybe as more people reply you'll have a better idea of a direction to pursue.

Hello Michelle, welcome to the board. I am so sorry to hear you are so ill at such a young age.

It sure sounds like FM/CFS, especially the constant sore throat, which is a symptom of CFS.

The back pain/knots sound like muscle spasms, and they really hurt badly. That is my worst pain, and I have FM. I use a rub called: 'Banalg', yes it smells, but it does work for the pain.

You need a doctor that is familiar with both these illnesses to diagnose you.

I have never found that ice packs help FM pain, always heat is the best source of relief.

You need to find something to help with sleep, then you can work on your other symptoms. Sleep is the most important thing we can do for FM/CFS.

You have come to the right place for help, we do have some well informed people here to offer help and support.

Again, welcome to the board, and try to find a doctor that can work with your symptoms.

    Shalom,Shirl

You definitely need to find a doc who is knowledgeable in our illnesses, not necessarily a rheumy. Most rheumies are not knowledgeable nor interested in treating CFIDS although there are exceptions.

You need to have tests to determine whether you may have some other illness which mimics the symptoms of ours. There is a lot which can be done to treat the symptoms of our illnesses. Learn all you can about these illnesses so you can work well with your doc in your healing. Good luck to you.

    Love, Mikie

See a specialist, an endoc...have a TSH, Free T3 and Free T4 done and be sure your doc knows how to read the results. Don't waste your time and money on a GP.

Welcome to the board. - I`m with beautifulsimplicity on this.

Your sore throat could be Toxin build up, which can come and go as the liver is also under stress.

Finding a Naturopath Doctor or Holistic Therapist is the key to getting better, shouldn`t be expensive either.

They help the body to heal itself - not with drugs.

For info tap these into the search box at the top and browse through the posts, should come across articles too. -There`s so much to learn:-

Fever Therapy - Olive Leaf Extract - Cytolog - Sea Salt, and my most recent post on Cellfood.

    Good luck,

    Love Pat.

Your dry mouth could be Sjogrens syndrome which Sea salt & Cytolog both help with.
