Thought that the thread on the magnesium book was getting too long!

My docs prescribe Mag IVs for some of their patients. My husband got them because he has a family history and is at risk for heart disease (research has shown that those who suffer heart attacks have low magnesium) and I got them because of my FM.

My docs are DOs and really into alternative treatments for illness and disease. I get these IVs in series of six about twice a year. Haven't had them for a while because my veins are not in great shape and I need to let them recover - don't have more than 2 that are accessible and only one is dependable. I sure miss that great feeling that comes from the IVs. I wasn't kidding about how great you feel. The "high" only lasts about 12-24 hours and the increased energy/improvement of fatigue lasts 3-6 months.

Because my docs do these treatments in their offices, I don't have a prescription to refer to. I am going in for my physical on Thursday, though, and will TRY to remember to have my doc write it all down for me.

My docs are the Kaplan Clinic in Arlington, VA.

Laurie, I hope you got the right website, because my docs' website has been down for some time and I can't access it tonight. Their phone number is 703-532-4892.

Did you call them? They don't take insurance, I'm afraid, and they are expensive, but so worth it in my book. I feel so fortunate to have found them. Write back and let me know what happened!

    Hi All......,
Just wanted to add that i get a combo magnesium and b12 IM injection 2 x a week.....2 cc b12 to 1cc of mag.......When i am at Docs she does it IV and adds vit. c......The Im's have really helped me......She does it IM; IV; and and as a "push" thru the veins.....But the IM has no Vit c......It totally brings me to life.......
    Sorry for interrupting......

Iggy, I would think that any doc could do the IVs as long as you could get them to believe it would help you. My docs are DOs.

Laurie, you can get the magnesium either in shot form (magnesium sulfate) or IV form (magnesium something else). I'm pretty sure your doc would know the dosage.

Laurie and Betsy, did you get appointments at the clinic?

    Iggy,
My Doc is a CFS/FM specialist.....but i know other docs do it also....Actually at this point....she gives me the scripts for the materials i need..and the Board of Health in my town; sends a nurse 2 x a week to administer the injections of b12 and magnesium....IM.....

    Lea,
In answer to your question re dosage.....
I use magnesium sulfate(injectable bottle);b12(cyanocobalamin)(injectable bottle)...3ml 25g5/8 latex free syringe; 25g 1 @1/2" needle...... The formula is .......1cc of mag. to 2cc of b12.......I take them 2 x weekly.....this is one way to do it; w/o having to go to docs office.......This is all prescribed by doc......and administered by the town nurse; IM.....Never give it to yourself.....
    Hope this helps......
