Disappointed in my pain doc

    Hi all--

I've been around, just not posting much. Been going through some treatments for my back pain (thoracic facet injections) and I've had an occipital neuralgia headache for a month. When I went back to my pain doc yesterday and told him that I still had my back pain and about the occipital headache, he seemed very unconcerned. He has me on 50 mg of Kadian twice a day and I have told him before that I doesn't cover the pain and he told me then that he "wasn't going to give me anything else". That I would just have to "rest" to deal with the pain. Yesterday, he injected the occipital nerves on both sides behind my ears. It was absolutely one of the most painful things I've ever had done. I had the feeling that he was just jabbing me with absolutely no compassion at all. He also asked me "What do you do all day?". I said "what do you mean?". To which he replied "Well, you just can't sit around all day and think about your pains". What in the c**p makes him think that? I'm more prone to overdo and keep on keeping on. Oh, and when I was leaving the office, he told me to "fix my hair". (It's long and I had to pull it up for the injections and I guess it was a little mussed when I took it down). I know there's no point to this and I'm not asking a question (unless some of you wonderful people have suggestions); I'm just mad as hell and need to vent. There aren't any other pain docs here and my internal medicine doc won't give me anything strong than vicodin. Well, I guess I'll go fix my hair and think about my pains. UGH. Love you all...
    Regards
    Paula

I have been reading with great interest the Post's about folks who are getting the Epudiral's and other Injections for Pain.
It seems that all the neruo doc's I have been to lately, want to stick needles in me. No way. I see that it helps some, but it seems to be a very Painful procuder, and with me things always go wrong in some small or big way.

If I were you, I would be looking for someone else, this guy is not the best Type for a Pain Doctor, he seem's to be a Big Pain in the A, er, Neck himself.

    Sorry you had a Rotten time of it, BTW, how long is your hair? If it's longer than 10 in's and you ever want to cut it off, you might think about sending it to the;
Locks of Love Foundation, the make wig's and give them to Sick children who have lost their hair. I did that a year and a half ago, and it's almost long enough now, so with summer around the corner, and me with neck Pain, I'm thinking of doing it pretty soon.

They are in Florida, and if you just type their name in the search engine, it'll give you their addy. They are a good group.

Hoping your Evening is a good one.
    Sincerely

medical practitioners like this doctor inflict serious damage to out psyches by making us feel terrible about ourselves because we are trying to feel better and get pain relief. I don't understand pain docs who seem fixated on one type of treatment only. Maybe I do understand it, they are in the business for their own personal gain, not because they care about people.

I went to a headache pain center once, had some really bad experiences. I am convinced now that the doctor was trying out a certain protocol so that he could write about it in a
    medical journal.

I went to another pain doctor for lumbar epidural injections as an attempt to help my myofacial pain. I filled out all these detailed pain sheets which the doc did not even look at. I got worse after the injections, probably because of the steroid that was injected.. I was very very much in pain. The pain doc wrote a follow-up report to the referring doc which says I responded well to the injections. Liar!

By the way, is this pain doc you are seeing an anesthesiologist? If so, he is only going to treat you accoding to his field of expertise...injecting meds to deaden pain.

Maybe you can show your internal medicine doc the posting that Shirl had recently by Dr. Bennett and treatment for this DD. Good luck

You poor dear. I can not believe you were treated like this. It is Doctors' like this that do not deserve to have their lisence especially to treat chronic pain patients.
You know i must say this to you though. You need to do some research on MS. The thoratic spine and the occipital nerves are two areas of problems with MS. I am not trying to upset you but we all have to be medically knowledgeable about our medical problems and symptoms. If I were you I would find another pain Doctor too and write a letter to your old one and tell him how upsetting it is to know he is a pain specialist and has no compasion for us that live with this on a daily basis and he has no idea of what you go through so why should he pass judgement on one when he is clueless. And include he should look in the mirror at his own darn hair..
Take care and try not to let him get you down. I know it is hard though.
    Love,
    Joannie

Wouldn't it be nice if we had a doctor like madwolf available to us? One that was also suffering with the same DD and had all the symptoms we talk about and WANTED to help us as he has been there and done that. I looked in the recomended Pain doc listing here on this site and only one was listed for Ne and so far away. Ia's also too far. Madwolf gave me good advice have you tried to contact him? When you get the bill from this so called doctor send him all pennys.....man that is a lot of pennys isn't it? Cost a fortune for postage. I almost know how you feel as I've had bad experience too. EEUUUUEW!!!

HE SOUNDS LIKE THE D*** PHYSIATRIST I WENT TO BRIEFLY AFTER AUTO ACCIDENT, AND HIS INJECTING BUDDY.

THERE WAS SO MUCH PAIN WITH THE FACET POINT INJECTION AND HE WAS SO CAVALIER IN HIS TREATMENT OF ME, HAT I REFUSED TO GO BACK. FOUND WONDERFUL ONE, BUT SHE AGREED W/ME ABOUT NO MORE INJECTIONS. IF ANYTHING THEY MADE ME MORE DIZZY AND I FELL MORE.

WE NEED A LIST OF NAMES OF GOOD & BAD DRS, OR A RATING SYSTEM FOR THEM!!

so sweet for the input and encouragement. I knew I could count on you to understand. I just keeps coming at us sometimes, doesn't it. I haven't slept more than 3 hours at a time in months and now the pain is flaring and I don't have good pain control. It's all just a bit much. There are some really good docs about an hour from here, but most of them have dropped out of the ins plan I have, so that's a big problem as they are really expensive. Oh well....guess I'll just keep on lookin'. Thanks again bunches for your help. Hope your day is better than mine!

He tells you to fix you hair, tell him to fix his attitude and that you dont pay him for his arrogance. And that if you wanted his opion on your appearance you would ask him. I have been known to go off many a time on shi-tty doctors. They get all humble in a few secs, when you knock them down a peg. They are people too and thier egos bruise easier than most.

    I hate specialists sometimes.
