Wonder if any of you have had simaler experiences...

I was on the phone with a friend of mine. He said he had been over at Linda's place fixing her sink that day. "You remeber Linda?" he asked me. "She lives with a bird named Jorell."

Just as I was thinking, 'Why would she name a pet bird after Superman's dad?' I heard him saying, "They're a couple of old maids..." and it dawns on me that he's not talking about a bird named Jorell. He's talking about Roberta Gurvelle!

As soon as the phone call was done, I phoned Linda and Roberta and told them about the "bird named Jorell." They had me on speaker phone, so I go to hear them both laughing at the same time. :D
    ((gotta laugh!)) xx Shannon

All of the time LOL. Sometimes it annoys me that I do this but oh well.

I am always for clarification and it drives other folks crazy but LOL I can't help it. It takes awhile for me to get things now.

I have to take everything in stride.

I have what is called Auditory Sensory Dysfunction (it's a learning disability). And I do this sort of thing all the time. Basically what it is (or this is how it was explained to me) is when a word enters my ear there is basically a short circuit between the ear and the brain. By the time it reaches my brain I think I have heard a totally different word.

Same with reading, sometimes I read a word and by the time the signal reaches my brain I dont understand a thing I just read. I had thought for years I was just hard of hearing until I finally had my hearing tested and it is great. I was then sent to a place that specializes in dx learing disabilities and found out I had this.

Usually I have the most trouble SAYING words (it amazes me the things that come out of my mouth when I'm trying to say something else!).

But I sure know what you mean about hearing incorrectly. Sometimes a whole sentence or two goes by and even though I'm trying really hard, I don't understood a single word. I have to ask people to repeat what they've just said a lot. So embarrassing!

It's as if I'm standing beside this person who looks just like me who is saying something totally unrelated to the subject at hand. This is a neurological ..... thing. Can't think of the word. lol

It's a running joke with my friends and me now. Whenever I know I misheard, because what it sounded like they said is so ridulous I say "gay porno"? Because one time I thought someone said one of our friends was in gay porno, I can't remember what it actually was, but I promise you it was nothing like that.

That's what I thought my DIL was asking for when they were visiting. She asked if I had any tea bags and I said tea bog? I had her repeat it 3 times and that's what I kept hearing until my DD said Mom what is wrong with you she wants a tea bag!Everyone laughed but I was mortified.I ended up explaining my illness and the strange symptoms so they wouldn't think I was brain dead lol.

You thought it was funny when you thought someone had named their bird Jorell, my mother's daughter got a legal name change a few years ago and changed her name to Jorell. And that one you heard right! LOL

Not the same thing..but you reminded me of a day my DH and I were shopping....I went to see if something was still on sale.Something I use a lot of in bath and beauty dept. It was not, so I only got one. A treat of sorts.

Then I saw something else I wanted and grabbed a box....my DH came around the corner and said."Is that all you are buying on that?!? You really need it and you need to use it all the time. Buy lots of it. I want you to have it.!"

Some shoppers turned around and looked and I had a red face.
I found out that he was referring to product from bath and beauty isle, already in my cart....but I was holding a box of massengill....which everyone I am sure thought this was what he was talking about.

He did not even realize I had that box and was reaching to put it in my cart. He really did howl though when I told him and I could of left him in the store at that moment and went home without him! Grrrrrrrrr (ok, it is funny) Susan
