When I first got sick w/CFS I was checked out for MS because of the extreme pain and numbness on my left side. After a few years that symptom seemed to pretty much go away.

Now it is back. I am miserable. It is only on my left side. My face is numb on the left side. The pain runs down my whole left side.

Does any one else have this?

    Hi,

I probably won't be popular saying this but......have you checked into Lyme disease? Numbness on your face and on the left side is a classic Lyme symptom.

I was misdiagnosed with CFS twenty years ago and fibro last year. Well, it turns out I have Lyme disease. Most Lyme doctors believe that CFS/Fibro is really Lyme. Check out the Lyme board here.

    Take care.

I have this big time!!! I have numbness and tingling all over in various locations. I was/am convinced I have MS despite negative testing. I currently have numbness, burning, severe pain entire left side. It's on my scalp, face, neck, left shoulder blade, down the left rib, then into left butt cheek down outer side of left leg. I also have pins and needles in lower leg and foot. I'm totally freaked out!! I've had several episodes like this over the past 16 months. The current one has been present for 2 weeks. I've seen 4 neurologists, including an MS specialist. I've had 2 brain MRI's,2 cervical MRI's, thoracic and lumbar MRI's, EMG, evoked potentials. I had a spinal tap in May while I was having an episode like this. My left leg was dragging. All test have been COMPLETELY NORMAL. I do have a history of bullseye rashes from many years ago with a neurologic syndrome about 8 months later. It all came back last year after a few years without symptoms. All my lyme tests have been negative.. Even the MS doctor was concerned about lyme after hearing my history but it was a done deal after the negative test. I definitely know what you are going through.

A very good friend of my daughters' was a logger. He had numerous traditional lymes tests done and they all came back negitive. He continued to get worse and worse and was positive he had lymes and was not satisfied with the traditional tests, so went to a lyme specialist who did a more refined lymes test and it came back positive. Apparently there is a very small window of time after having been bitten that the traditional test will detect it.

The test is very expensive but is conclusive. He is now in a wheel chair and must be fed and cared for. The specialist said that if he had been diagnosed sooner, he would not be where he is today.

I don't mean to be an alarmist and scare you, but you might want to get the better test done.

    Best to you.

I think the test you are referring to is the western blot. I've had it 3 times and all were negative. One of the tests was done through Igenex. It showed one positive and 2 indeterminate bands. It's the only one that showed anything.

As someone who is sick and tired of seeing doctors so they can collect my co-pays (and not do much else), I would encourage you to be persistent in finding answers. There are several things that can cause pain and facial numbness. Besides MS, the other dx that pops to my mind is Bell's Palsy.

No, I'm not a doctor. Just have the blessing of a lot of sick friends.

Hope you find an answer soon.

OH yes...I have pain/numbness on my left side from my head to my toes. My doctor was hesitant on diagnosing FM, since textbooks state that it is causes pain on both sides.

However, after many doctor visits, she sent me to my rheumatologist who diagnosed me right away. He is a believer in FM. Now if I can find a good psychologist to help with the depression...

Anyway, you are not crazy...my lyme test came back negative. In my opinion, left side pain/numbness is just another crazy symptom of FM...no doubt in my mind.
