Doctor says I don't have alot of damage and we are trying to lower my eye pressure. I have been using an eye drop at night in my right eye, and now I'm also using a new drop in the morning in both eyes. It seems this new eye drop is causing my eyes to be very dry--they hurt. Hoping this is a temporary side effect.

I also have a cataract in my right eye and the specialist says having the cataract surgery will also help to lower the pressure in my eye. I have new insrurance now--so I don't know if they are going to nail me on "pre-existing condition". We will see what they say about my last visit.

I use an eye wash every couple of hours and I also have some drops made for dry eyes.

Must go for now--need to go back to bed.

I don't have glaucoma but it runs in my family. My dad had it, now one of my brothers has it (a mild case) and a sister was just diagnosed with rather advanced glaucoma (she hadn't been to the eye doctor in 3 years, not that long)

Anyways, last week I saw Dr. Oz mention a supplement called forskolin (I forget what he was recommending it for) and I looked it up and amazingly it is supposed to help lower ocular pressure, probably not to replace your drops but at least would enhance the effect. Here's one study:

It's also supposed to help lower blood pressure.

Also, lutein and zeaxanthin and vitamin E are all supposed to help prevent cataracts or slow them down, so you may want to try supplementing with these.

I'd tell my doctor about the dry eye side effect of the drop - maybe he or she could recommend a different drop or something to help.

Good luck with all of this, and it is really good they caught it early for you. In my family we are all making sure now to get up-to-date on annual eye exams!

    Best wishes,

Thanks Mary for your reply and your ideas. Some of them I do already but I will look into that supplement and look at the study.
