I am adopting a child that is 2 1/2 years old. He is a red head with very pail skin. He has lived with me for six months. I have noticed that when we are in the sun his skin does not burn or tan. It just stays pail. We were in the yard last weekend for about 9 hours in the 90 degree heat and I got burnt on top of the areas that were tan. This child stayed pail. No sunburn or tan. Does anyone have any idea why his skin would not do that or how I could find more information?

I find it amazing that a redhead doesn't totally burn in the sun.
I'm hoping that you use a high factor sunblock anyway, for safety's sake. The more exposure to the sun a child gets, the worse the risk is of skin cancer later in life.
