Dry eyes anyone?

I've been dealing with off & on dry eyes for the past year or so; but the past month I've been having increased issues.

I've used Bausch & Lomb Eye Wash to help wash out what felt like something in my eye. My eye specialist said that was fine to use and also said to use Systane lubricant eye drops--which I have been using many times a day.

I've been doing some reading about dry eyes and the use of artificial tears--are those the same as lubricant drops?

My right eye is the worst but I also have glaucoma in that eye and I use special eye drop at night.

I'm trying not to get freaked out by this because I've also read about Sjogrens too.

    Any ideas?

Yes, I have them also. I used Restasis for awhile, and it helped, but it's expensive even with insurance. they were feeling better, but now are feeling dry again. Some people have had success with taking fish oil or flax oil internally. It didn't help me.

There are also punctal plugs. They are tiny plugs the eye dr. will put in the tear ducts. It can be done in the office. no special preparation is required. My ex-husband had them, and they worked better than anything. I may try that next.

I find that the dry eyes, also make me want to close my eyes alot and sometimes, I think they give me headaches. Do you have that issue?

Yes, artificial tears are the same as lubricant drops.[This Message was Edited on 04/11/2012]

I sometimes wake up with my eye will really hurt, it feels like I have ripped it open. My eye doc said that I had dry eye and had me get an over the counter ointment to be used at bedtime. The only issue I had with it was that it felt like I was putting vasline in my eye's and they were greasy, and goopy and when I put on my glass's the goopy stuff got all over them and they were always smuged and greasy.
I found a gel lubicant and it worked just as well , I spoke to the eye doc and he said it was ok to use. Since that time I have not had the problem.

I never thought I would have dry eye's as I cry over everything, commercils, TV shows, books with touching endings. I cry when I am happy , sad, emotional all the time. Some times it is a pain that I tear up so easily. Makes it had to use makeup and mascara as it smudges and drips down my eye's. I have sensitive eye's and don't wear mascara often and when I do I buy the easy off mascara , for some reason the water proof makes my eye's itch.

SO your not alone and there are many diferent products that you can try till you find the right one for you.

I had the tear plugs put in because the restaisis wasn't working well enough. Now I use oasis eye lubricant and I can wear my contacts a couple times a week. Yeah!
