I recently had to get a new doctor and I understand the first appointment is always the toughest to get in with the doctor.

I would recommend asking to be placed on a cancellation list and maybe you could call every couple of days to enquire if they could work you in, this way the staff will become more familiar with you. Also ask to be mailed the New Patient information packet and this will speed up the process.

Sometimes office staff can be so busy they forget (unintentionally) to remember the new patients that need to get worked in as soon as possible.

Good Luck to you and I hope you feel better soon.

I had a pinched sciatic nerve, the chiropractor gave my hip a twist while I was laying down and WOW it felt great. I sometimes can twist my body real hard and fix it myself now.

My wife gets a pinch vertebrae and I can put pressure on it to relieve it. Or she can put a tennis ball underneath it to relieve it.

If it's FM trigger point pain, my mom has had great success with enzymes. She uses Walmart enzymes 200 tabs for <$7. 6 tabs/ day works for her.

Get yourself into the ER, or get into another doc. I've been where you are & still spend alot of days like that. I just came off of a 6 week attack. Still feel crappy, but not the worst of the worst. I have 4 kids under 7 & have had to realize how hard this has been on them. Yes they take it well, but they go without alot because I simply can't do alot. my mom last week helped me to hire a nanny, so I will have 3 mornings to rest a week. I think youu do alot more damoage to yourself in not treating the pain, especially with sooo much else going on. I find I'm a miserable B_TCH to be around when I'm in pain and can barely address my own needs, let alone anyone else's. I have recently found myself begging docs for pain meds & when you mention you have young kids so you must function, they seem to have an understanding of how horrrible that can be. Do yourself a favor & get out of pain. In the meantime, I used to get some relief from 800mg advil + maximum dose of tylenol-100mg. You can have the acetaminaphen as Robaxacet(with a small dose of another pain killer), or Tylenol #1(with codiene availiable in Canada) Do not combine aspirin & advil though. Those are both blood thinning agents. When I have to go to ER, I usually go late at night as it isn't as busy & no one in the house is missing you. I try to hide my pain from my kids as I feel it's tough for them to see me like that. Take care & GET OUT OF PAIN !!!!! Laura

I wish there was something I could do to help you. Is there anyone that could watch the children and drive you to the ER?

Do you have any epsom salts to soak in a warm bath?

Just read your bio. Seems to me, you're pregnant. i didn't take Advil when pregnant, only if completely desperate. Not sure what they'll give you for pain, depending on how far along you are. They would only go as far as Tylenol#3 when I was pregnant. That will give you some relief if you've been going so long in pain. Take Care, Laura

I was pregnant and have a 6mth old now. I tried the bath thing and felt worse afterwards. I took tylenol earlier and my husbands Vicodin about an hour ago (I know I shouldn't) still feel bad, I might go to ER if the pain doesn't let up in the next hour.

Just curious of your FM all started with pregnancy? It did for me. Easiest is to read my bio, as it tells all. I can't tell you how devastating it is to finally have the family you want, then to be bed ridden with undiagnosed pain....Canadian health care sucks as I've endured extreme waits to variouos specialists who keep passing me off to another. I really hope you get some help ASAP. Don't feel bad about the Vicodan(I've never tried it), but remember when I sent my husband to get a vasectomy I had to 'borrow' a few tylenol# 3, and was pleased he didn't need them all. He's just wants me well! Take Care, Laura

Mgmarble - Hope your pain lets up soon but it sounds like you need something to intervene. Sometimes the pain gets so bad that you just can't get out in front of it without some big time meds.

If it's still very bad, go to the ER and get checked out. The doctor should give you some narcotic pain relievers to give you some comfort for the time being. Maybe you could get a recommendation for a short visit with a general practitioner, that could give you a prescription just to see you through the holiday, and until you can get in to see your new doctor. January 11th is a long ways away for someone in pain.
