Has anyone ever felt strange mentally since they got fibromyalgia? I don't mean depressed or spacey. It's hard to explain but its very scary. Everything looks weird to me. Sherry

BUT NOW I HAVE TO SOMETIMES RETHINK WHAT SIGNS MEAN, AND IT REQUIRES SO MUCH MORE THOUGHT PROCESSING THAT I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH ATTENTION SPAN TO TAKE EVERYTHING IN, SO I AM MUCH MORE LIKELY TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT, ETC. When I was looking for a doctor's office, I did not see a motorist at all until he was right about to run right into the middle half of my car..I thought I had looked, but this was the first time in my life I did not see a car at all...wE DID HAVE AN ACCIDENT, BUT I SPED UP ENOUGH FOR HIM TO HIT MY BACK BUMPER!! And in heavy traffic or even in light traffic (depends on my level of exhaustion) too much stimuli are bombarding my brain and I feel panicky and a wreck..therefore, I try to limit my driving to better functioning times but it still wears my brain out..I am so exhausted by the time I get home...I don't know if this is what you are talking about..but I feel the more stressed we get the worse the mental functioning.. LOL, AMELIA

always feel pretty strange in the head, & my left eye doesn't follow my right one 100% properly & this makes me see things a little oddly :(
Extreme photosensitivity means I hate leaving the house.
I am also suffering from derealisation/depersonalisation which is really scary & makes things seem unreal. I think that the photosensitivity brings it on.
Derealisation is where things around you don't seem real, Depersonalisation is where you yourself do not feel real in your surroundings. (I think that's right.)
I had my first bout back when I was a teen, it lasted about a year & I didn't even know what it was.
This last bout has lasted about 8 months, though it's not as bad as when it started.

I have experienced the strange feelings at times. I also have aniexty attacks. The night driving is a challenge for me. Things do look a little different at night, and my perseption is also off. I have made some almost fatal mistakes driving, that worrys me. i try not to be out much at night alone.
    good luck

driving years ago. I would get panic
attacks and they were so extreme that
    I would become totally disoriented,
not sure of what street I was on, even what town at times. Depth perception would be effected also and
all the distractions of lights, signs, people walking, bicycle riders..it would just throw me clear
off. I could talk myself through it
but finally decided for my sake and the sake of other driver's it was better for me to just stop. Now with
the medications I don't have the panic attacks except on RARE occasions and don't FEEL as though
my reactions are delayed, but they are bound to be. So I wait for rides
and if I had a dire emergency would
    call a cab. Hugs,Bambi

YES! I feel most comfortable at home. Want to go out and do things but like you said it is strange! Not spacy but weird. Like I am not a same part of the world as the other people. And I am not doing drugs or drinking. What is it?

My husband thinks I have lost it but he does not know what I mean. I cannnot even explain it.

Yes Sherry, absolutely! I had alot of trouble with fibro fog, and then for the past year my head cleared up perfectly.....now for the past 3 days, I feel like I'm on another planet. It scared me at first because I thought I was losing it. Then I remembered this is what fibro fog felt like and I relaxed. Don't let it scare you, just go with the flow and it runs its course. I usually stick close to home when I get like this...just relaxing, watching movies, etc..

yep sometimes things just"look" or appear weird or strange and lots of times I feel like things aren';t real.... and the fog... well I've tried provigil and it worked for one day and I'm thankful for that day.... the second day with provigil I had to count the pills cause I doubted I had taken it and now ode to the fog is the song of the day...
I too , feel that driving is hard for me right now... I frequently get lost and never used to... I I also see wierd interpretations of things...... strange strange disease... ( not syndrome!!!) Good luck

I can't believe that someone posted about this. Thank-you very much. This all sounds like me. It is so hard to function every day like this. I have a real hard time cooking. I can;t seem to get the ingredinces right. I can't go to the store and by what I need. I by the wrong thing. Things don't seem real. I used to keep a journal every day but now I can't. I can;t get the words from my brain to the paper. Everything does look weird. Things happen around me that I can't comprehend. I feel like I am drugged. I take no medicines. Someone says something to me and I just look at them like I can't figure out what they just said. This is to me the worst thing to have. I could take all the pain but not this craziness. I don't even want to drive anymore or even leave the house. I can relate to what everyone has said. I can relate to what everyone has said.It is very scary to live like this. No one understands what we have to go through with this DD. Take care. Gail

Awhile back someone here posted about this~ I get it all the time! Its one of my scariest symptoms! It is so hard to describe......the others that have already posted did a good job at describing it~ I also have to talk myself thru a situation.Like when driving I feel too over stimulated!!!Too much going on around me,and I really have to think hard to make the right move~(its odd)! Sometimes its worse than others. Glad to see I'm not alone.....I feel it~

Sometimes it's fun, if your being escorted in public, LOL, sometimes it's really scary! I used to be sharp as a tack.

I can remember once looking at the 'IN' and 'OUT' doors at the supermarket and could not understand them! Now I loose my cell phone...forget what bills I've paid, the list goes on..........sometimes I can't ever look at the computer screen! Read The Fibromyalgia Advocate by Devin Starlanyl...you'll feel SO VALIDATED.

    Hi Sherry,

I have gotton anxiety/panic attacks since fibro and before I get panic attacks i feel like a weird SENSATION is coming over me, a feeling of unreality. It's weird can't explain it much more than that. I feel like I might die or something. I take meds for it now. Let me know how you are doing!!
