So, here I am still sick. My fever is not quite as high, but it's still in the 99 to 100 range, which is enough to make me feel like you-know-what. My throat is also getting worse and worse by the day. And I cannot stop coughing.

I just get soooo angry about the fact that I'm always getting sick. I honestly want this to be over. I'm not suicidal, but it is starting to wear on my emotions. I had to call off of work for tomorrow, as there's no way I'll be able to make it in. This is already the 3rd time this year that I've had to call off for being sick. What scares me is the fact that I work in a hospital, where I can easily pick up various infections. So, how do I function if I'm constantly getting sick?

Some days I'm so envious of my husband and his super-powerful immune system. He's gotten sick maybe twice in the last 6 and a half years...no kidding! And it's not like his lifestyle is any different than mine. Besides the fact that I'm in the field of healthcare, we eat the same foods, drink the same drinks, etc. So why can't my pain and suffering be over? I hate ME/CFS, I hate getting sick all the time, and I hate being me right now.

Why don't you ask your doctor for a shot of gamma globulin to boost your immune system. Hopefully it is covered by insurance because it is very expensive.

I recently saw an infectious disease specialist who was treating his CFS patients with interferon or gamma globulin. Some had insurance to cover.

I don't know much about this but I have heard of people getting gamma globulin to boost their immune systems.

hi kim, wish i could help but can only offer up a cyber-hug and best wishes!
But--if not already well documented, please have your Dr. DOCUMENT these symptoms, every time they happen, as these are the ones they will look for (they being dis. companies) to try to prove you DON'T meet the CDC criteria for CFS. I had years of low grade temps (also worked in a hospital) and just casually mentioned them once or twice to pcp, so for proof, it's as though that symptom never existed.
It might help, if not already doing so, to bump up your vitamin C intake on a daily basis, also. That was a great idea about the gamma globulin, i am not very familiar with it, but i think more and better research will be done now that we have CDC acknowledgement, and one of these days---we just might get back to our old selves when they find a cure!
Hang in there, spring is just around the corner (the groundhog promised!) and i hope you feel better--take care, L

I'm sorry you are having such a hard time right now.

I used to get sick all the time. I was a teacher and constantly picked-up illnesses from my students. I missed about 6 weeks of school a year. It stopped when I finally retired (8 years early). Now, I am very careful to keep away from children that might have a sniffle or cough, and take concdntrated efforts to de-germ myself after going out.

Every time you are around sick people, you are in danger of catching what they have, if it's contagious -- as long as you have a depressed immune system. Have you considered taking a trainng and getting into administration? Maybe you could do it without taking an extra course. I would suggest that you try to find a job in your field that will keep you away from close contact with sick people.

One thing that I use is an essential oil called "Thieves". It is the same formula that thieves used to rub on their bodies in the times of the plague, so that they could steal from the bodies without geetting sick. It is a wonderfl help in warding off illness.

Good luck to you.
Here's a BIG HUG!

Hang in there sweetie. I bet that is rough being around germs all of the time.

I think I may be getting sick. I have done so well this winter (avoiding getting colds, etc.) and I obviously picked something up (probably on a trip to the DR). However, the sore throat may be from new meds I am taking? I woke up horribly sick this morning, but now I feel pretty good. I had a slight fever earlier. I always get the flu shot and drink lots of juices and water. Also ... being a "recluse" helps to avoid germs. We all know how this condition affects our social life ;-) .

Sorry to hear you're feeling so sad,I totally understand what you are going through,my husband is the same way, he
doesn't get sick very often and when he does it will only
be for one to two days where when I get sick it will last
for a very long time.
I am also so sick of getting sick, but be encouraged you are not alone!
I will keep you in my prayers.

Here's a big hug to let you know that there is a group of people who understand and care about what you are going through. I want to praise you for having the courage to say, "I hate being me right now." We are not allowed, so to speak, to say it from the heart without feeling like we are wallowing, but doggone it, sometimes we just need to say I'm tired of this, I'm having trouble accepting this. It's always harder when you are sick.

Take care of yourself. Have you tried the meds that they say you should take as soon as you feel a cold or fly coming on? They might work, but I don't remember the name. Oh yes I do-"cold ease." And a ginc tablet under the tongue.

Good luck to you. Han in there.

"My throat is also getting worse and worse by the day. And I cannot stop coughing. "

Hi Kim,

I work in a hospital also, but not on the floors with patients..... medical transcriptionist. However, my immune system is so depressed, I open doors, and touch other items with my sleeve, not my hand. I am cautious in the cafeteria, and when I need to be on the floors.

My physician is considering IVIG's to help my immune system.

Many FMSers have chronic sinusitis, please post on my "sinusitis thread." I am looking for a "count."

A symptom of chronic sinusitis is sore throat and coughing.

Please, do not despair, I was diagnosed over 20+ years ago with this illness, and there are in-roads in the making. In my 20+ years, there have been a GREAT shift.

FMSers just want it now, we cannot wait. Hang in there!

We understand.

Fondly June
