there's lots of evidence pointing to the fact that FM is a nervous system disorder but it doesn't come down to deficiencies of just one neurotransmitter. there's also the issue of the nervous system misfiring and sending out pain signals when it shouldn't. the doctor that led the clinical trial for lyrica that i participated in commented that fibro patients are being done a disservice when they're sent to rheumatologists because she believes the problem is firmly rooted in the realm of neurology. as for FM being an automimmune thing, my personal belief is that CFS is immune-related but FM is neuro/brain-related.

your question in the search here. I know there was just a study posted recently that said at least that study pointed to a neurological source related to the central nervous system. I KNOW some of my pain is NOT even IN the muscles, while other times it feels like most of it is.

Fact is they don't know for sure yet WHAT is causing it, but it seems they are getting closer. They are even calling FM a disease now in some circles. About TIME!

One problem is that a lot of people test positive for various viruses etc, but at the same time lots of people test positive for the same viruses etc and don't get sick. So finding out what triggers these things to rev up and make some ill while not others is an issue.

As far as I can make out it "could" be a traumatic incident like an accident,
surgery etc, but also in some it is an emotional shock like a death etc..

I think they have their work cut out to put a finger on all of it and to be sure it is the same thing we all are suffering from..or if it is just
a variety of illnesses that are very similar.

Just the fact that some never advance to SEVERE degrees of pain while others end up bedridden is a mystery..although not getting ANY exercise can lead to not being able to function.."some" TRY to do the exercising but only get worse.

I think we have a long wait for a cause and cure..while sometimes a study will come out that makes it seem like they are just on the brink of something. You can drive yourself bonkers trying to figure it out!

I've researched for over 20 years, and I'm finally convinced that it's definitely the brain chemistry disorder. I've seen my brain map. It's all screwed up, with a definite profile of fibromalgia.

The book I'm working with tells the whole brain story........everything you could ever think or imagine about. The Edge Effect.....Dr. Braverman. Just came out!! I found it at my library; then bought it.

    Amazing information.
