I can't seem to find a dr. in the Raleigh, NC area that really knows and understands Fibromyalgia. I have been to my regualar internist who isn't sure it is really an illness. I am going to a rheumatologist who tells me it isn't a disability and I need to exercise more. Does anyone have any suggestions or names of drs. in my area? At this point, I am willing to travel in my state to find someone that is compitent.

I'm from Raleigh too! When I first became sick last June I went to my then MD and she was just the pits! She treated me like I was just a whiny butt after attention. She actually told me all I needed to do was go out and have some fun. I was so mad I could have spit! So I immediately switched MD's and now I currently see Dr. Jonathan Green (919)481-1515. He's great. Suspected right away that I had either FM or CFS. He immediately started me on Max-alt for my migranes and Trazadone and Celexa to help me sleep. He also ordered a lot of tests including an MRI just to rule out anything else it might be. He then referred me to a Rheumatologist at UNC-CH, Dr. John Winfield (919)966-4191, to make a positive dx. I've only seen him once so far but am scheduled to see him again at the end of this month. He was really great too. Very understanding and diagnosed me with defintely having FM. He put me on Neurontin to help me with my pain but it's not really doing anything for me much plus I've gained a little weight which I do NOT need to do so when I see him again that will have to go. Dr. Green has also referred me to a pain specialist on Blue Ridge Rd. but I haven't seen him as yet. I'm hoping he'll be able to help me with the pain but we'll see. Anyway, I hope all this helps some. Hugs.

I will be checking these drs. out ASAP. Do you attend any type support groups or anything? I am not able to work and also have a major anxiety and panic attack problem.

I was just diagnosed with FM a few weeks ago by Dr. Kyle Strader 781-9633. He was recommended by a friend of mine with FM, and he really knows his stuff. I believe that his wife has FM also. I'm grateful I found him.

Hello, I am also from Raleigh. Was diagnosed in 1993 so I can tell you about some of the doctors. If there a way that we can talk to each other, maybe emails. I don't know if we are allowed to get someone elses email. Mickie can you tell me how we can do this the right way??????? And who is the "pain specialist" on Blue Ridge Road".

    Hi,
The Pain Specialist on Blue Ridge is actually at the Rex Pain Center (919-784-3402). I can't remember the MD's name of course and of course I forgot to write it down, ugh! and acutually I haven't seen him yet but after I see him next Tuesday I will write and update as to how well it went. I had to have a referral from my PCP and they had to fax my medical records over to them review before they would set up and appointment. It was a process but I have the appt.and we'll see how it goes. Wish me luck! Hope this helps. Hugs.

I am in Raleigh too. My email is beckyrutledge@nc.rr.com. I don't know if I'm suppose to do this but I asked the moderator and there was never an answer. If you email me, we can help each other.
