Hell ALL first time writing here. I'm actually not the one who is in need of support or information/opinions. I am inquiring about my mother. She has been diagnoised with FM the first time she was in the hospital around 2000. She also has bipolar and a herniated disk. Recently has been having severe problems being able to moving normally, as far as turning and postioning. I am trying to understand how she "forgets" to move. I have read up on the brain fog associated with FM and she is pretty much showing those symtoms. The doctor has prescribed anti-inflammatory, and a muscle relaxer, and she is also on a anitdepressant. It seems like it isnt getting any better and makes me wonder if anything else isnt wrong with her, She is only 41. She also is having TMJ, and seems like everything is out of line, stiff, and just doesnt want to be touched at all. She doesnt want to take her meds, or go to the doctor, just lay in bed, doesnt want to eat hardly, and wants me to do something. I dont know what do to. Please offer anything you might think would help. Thanks

If she is not taking her meds, she is not getting the help for her Bi-polar or maybe it is time to change her meds. She is depressed and confused, or so it seems. That on top of everything else that is going on with her. I really feel for her, poor dear.

So I feel that you must make contacts for her to try and solve these problems. I am so sorry that you have to go through this. Blessings

Well her bipolar meds are working i dont think she is depressed, i just think her pain is so bad at times it just makes her crazy, like she doesnt know what to do. But she is doing better she gets like that and then gets better and go back, repeating the cycle i suppose. I asked her about the doctors she doesnt really want to do physical therapy. I told her she isnt going to get any better. I should call around we live 2 hrs from Tulsa, ok so hopefully they may have a Doctor that can deal with fm, I did find one for her back...i plan to call tomorrow. Thanks your all your advice.

Welcome to the message boards, landofozz. :)

There is, potentially, a lot of misdiagnosis going on with the diseases of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. The problem is in not having adequate testing done, or not having the right testing done.

There are several diseases that look like FM, and might be misdiagnosed as FM if the doctor is not diligent in tracking down the source of the symptoms and reffering to the appropriate specialists. A google with 'fibromyalgia misdiagnosis' would be useful. To get a diagnosis of fibro, a lot of things must be ruled out first.

Some things that may be misdiagnosed as fibro are: multiple sclerosis, lupus, lyme disease, type 2 diabetes, and other conditions. Don't get scared though. These are just things to rule out if you feel doubtful about her diagnosis. An internet search can provide more info.

Please let us know how your research goes. I applaud you for doing research about brainfog and for finding us here and posting, and especially for taking a role in your mother's care. We're all interested to know more about your mother and how she is doing. Would she like to post here too? We are a caring community, and we always try to be helpful.

Look forward to hearing more from you.
