What in the world, when in the world?
Good to hear from you again. The above looks like an early illustration from the days of
the Montgolfier Brothers who invented the hot air balloon. Right about the time our
Revolutionary War ended.
See what I can find.
Well, I've looked at so many hot air balloons I'm out of breath. Easy to find pics of current
balloons. Not so easy to find the early ones. I did find pictures from a balloon race in
England in 1913. Ladies and gents in elegant clothes. Kinda like the horse race in "My
Fair Lady" at the Ascot Racecourse.
The above illustration looks like it was done by someone who also illustrated astronomy
or tarot cards material.
Oh yeah, found an account of the Montgolfier brothers putting on a demonstration at Versailles
Palace before Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. A balloon was sent up with three passengers:
a sheep, duck and rooster. The flight was brief and the passengers were unharmed.
You are close about the time frame Rock. It is from 1887 and is not for human transport. Also it has to do with the time of year we are in... hope that helps...
It's a New Year's balloon with fireworks?
How do you say "Happy New Year" in Dutch?
Wooohoooo yes that is it!!! Congrats and
Gelukkig Nieuw Jaar
Happy new year to all
