OK, my great Googlers!
Maybe this pic will stump y'all!!??!!??
that looks like a tomatilla
Might be a cloudberry. Have to see if I can find a pic.
Rock, I don't see any reference to cloudberry, in what I'm reading! I'll have to google "cloudberry" -- never heard of that.
Sun, CLOSE. So close, but NOT a tomatillo.
Diane, Cloudberries grow in Norway and Sweden. Make delicious jam. Can't tell from the pic
how big that thing is. When I was a kid there were wild berries that grew in a paper like husk.
We called 'em Japanese lanterns. Can't find any pics like the one you posted.
Tis a puzzlement.
OK, found a reference to a husk berry. Couldn't find a pic though. All I got while searching
was wedding photos. How did that happen? Am off to feed Zip and other manly pursuits.
The ripe fruit is about the size of a marble, 1 to 2 centimeters in diameter.
I don't think you'd *usually* find these in colder climes. But Barry, with his English (British? -- I never know the proper reference!) roots, might know about these.
Hmmmm, was that a clue? Just smilin'.
Never seen a Ground Cherry before. Sure would like a taste!
Bravo, Barry. NOW I remember. My grandmother called them ground cherries.
Here's some info I found under a pic:
"Physalis, cape gooseberry... three different names to the same fruit, which looks similar to a tomatillo in its husk, and is an edible member of the same family as Chinese Lanterns. This is the picture I wanted to take when I shot www.patanderson.net/webfullsize/groundcherryonblue.jpg on March 27, 2004. Sometimes I have to come back to things."
Just what Sun said. Looks like a tomatillo.
So far as I know, nobody in our little town every cooked or preserved these things.
Hooray! Another game SOLVED! Difficult to name a "winner", maybe I'll declare y'all co-winners of this game!
I came across this fruit while googling "Hawaii". I saw a reference to "Poha Berry."
It is known by a lot of names. And is related to the tomatillo.
Here's a link to CLOUDBERRY, mentioned by Rock. Ooh, the jam looks delicious!
I'm getting hungry now!
HI Diane -
Have been missing you and hope you are doing OK> Have so much going on now. So no time to Google ! Maybe can get back to it later on next week, if I am lucky. Stuff going on with the family good and bad.
Just wanted to let you know that I have been thinking about you. Guess you are doing OK since you are back making everyone using their thinking caps and Googling away. I'm off to a meeting right now and lunch. Tomorrow I am trying a chiro at least some tests done, on a special they are having. Who knows what they may find other than worse OA. I will need to go to another visit also to get the info back from the chiro. FM probably wound show up on anything since there really are no tests.
Separate names with a comma.
