I've had gastritis off & on since my 20's; then they removed my gallbladder in my 30's (big mistake)!!

But a couple of weeks ago, I was hit with the most horrific episode with pain I couldn't tolerate. Hospitalized, and then put on Protonix.

Home recovering; extremely weak, but the symptoms have subsided.

Anyone had a similar experience, and how long did it take for you to recover?

Thanks for any feedback; feeling hopeless.

I have GERD and erosion of my esophogus which led to a condition called Barrett's Esophogus. I was put on Protonix (pantaprozole) twice a day. I've been able to cut back to once a day, and my erosion has healed.

My problem and symptoms aren't quite the same, but I can say the drug saved my life. It immediately reduced the stomach acid for me, and time did the rest. I can tell every time I miss a pill because I'm back to heatburn.

I tried Prilosec, but it wasn't nearly strong enough.
