    Hi Everyone,

I wondered if anyone can give me any names and information of doctors that specialise in FM. I think where i am in my life it is important for me to continue looking for more answers and having a doctor with all the latest knowledge would benefit me so much.

If people could give me names/address/email of specialists that are preferably NHS but if it comes to it i would find a way to go private for the right doctor. I live in Northwest England. I realise finding a specialist near to me may be difficult and could be looking more towards London so please any of England, Scotland or Wales is fine. I'm not sure how NHS funding changes between countries though??

Thanks in advance for your help. I always very much appreciate it,

    Gentle hugs,

    Shelby

    shelbyeatenton,

I live in Scotland and have chronic fatigue, with symptoms of FM.

I can tell you that what has helped me most is hyperbaric oxygen. In the UK there is a lose network of centres that provide this and other therapies mostly to people with MS. These centres operate as charities and are not part of the NHS, but your GP's agreement will be required before you can start treatment.

The big advantage is that you can check out what is involved and wether it might help you without obligation before approaching your GP for advice.

If you can indicate your region I can let you know where your nearest centres are.

The other thing that can help is the Guaifenisen protocol, and you will need to read one of the books on the subject before discussing it with your GP. If you can't get Guaifenisen prescribed on the NHS then it's not that expensive to at least try out privately for a few weeks. (It's available from this website).

This is not medical advice, just a couple of things that have helped me.

I appreciate the names and treatments everyone have given me. I am especially interested in the oxegyn treatment but will look into it all further as i want to, as my nurse at the health centre suggested, "become my own specialist".

Any other names from people are very much welcomed.

    Thanks again....

    Hi Shelby
I'm in the north west too. Sorry can't recommend any doctors. The only one I've heard of is Sarah Myhill but you can read all about her treatments on her web site. I'm a bit wary as she offers tests and then does a write up for your doctor - sounds as if its just a money spinner to me!

But don't let me put you off as she is an expert in CFS and not many of those to the pound!

I've tried most convential things on offer over here which equals almost nothing except anti-depressants.

But have been on Lyrica for 2 years and it certainly does the trick with pain management for me.

However, I now do my own research, as most people do, to become "my specialist" & then tell my doctor what I ant to try.

The thing that works for me as I want to withdraw from Lyrica is Recuperation - a specific mix of ions in a powder format. It was formulated by a guy who had FM after many years of his own researh. You have to order it from Spain.

Are you on any meds/ supplements?

Good luck on your quest & let us know how you do.

    Best wishes

I know you asked for Doctors, but thought I would mention this. Michelle_NZ posted today on Stories about Recovery. It gave a link to YOUTUBE and had some good videos. They went on to open a Clinic in London called The Optimum Health Clinic. I browsed around their website today, and I liked what I saw. I bumped the thread for you, and here is the name and info on the Clinic, The Optimum Health Clinic, 1 Harley Street London W1G 9QD t: 0845 226 1762
