I couldnt sleep because the back pain is so bad tonight so I looked up Spine-health.com. It is a great site and full of information regarding the differant types of back pain.THAT PIRIFOMIS SYNDROME SOUND EXACTLY LIKE THE PAIN i HAVE AND WHAT SO MANY OF US DESCRIBE.The piriformis muscle is a small muscle that lies deep in the buttocks area behind the gluteus maximus.Spasms in the muscle can cause excrutiating pain from the low spine radiating to the buttocks and down the leg into the foot.Exactly what i feel everyday.
Another interesting one is called neuropathic pain where the nerves themselves malfunction and become the cause of the pain.Neuropathic pain is usually described as severe sharp, electric shock like, shooting, lightninglike or lancinating pain.It can be deep throbbing or cold.It can cause persistant numbness, tingling or weakness traveling along the nerve path into the arms, hands, legs or feet. This is exactly what I feel ever day!!! I was amazed to see this.I knew I wasnt crazy and there must be an explanation beyond FMS alone.I cant walk sometimes and the peircing pain causes me to drop to the floor and someone will have to carry me to a safe comfy spot where I have heat which helps to calm it down.I dont think an MRI or other tests will show this and I am scheduled to have one on Friday.I am wondering if I should cancel it since I cant afford it. I am uninsurable now and only have disability to count on.
This is a graet site you all should check it out. Many specialists have contributed so you will get a great and easy to understand explanation. These two conditions are totally what I go through daily.Im sure I am not alone here on this one. They talk about myofacial pain and nerve entrapment too. Give it a look an dI hope it helps many of you have a better understanding. It did for me.

DITTO...everthing you described is me and I too am having 3 MRI's on Friday. I know what you mean about the money, I'm on disability too and my medicare doesn't kick in until May 2003. I did get approved for the Medically Needy program through Medicaid. You might want to check them out in your state and get them to pay for it.

The excrutiating pain in my back from my buttocks to my feet has really set me back this week. Yes heat and meds are the only thing that helps (oxy, xanaflex mr) and even that doesn't completely take it away. I have been too impaired to try to take an epsom salt bath.

    Isn't the internet amazing!!!!!

God Bless and thanks for the resource tip.

I have neuropathic pain like you described and the lower back stabbing pain too! It is why I take so many oxycontin, but I also wanted to give you my email insomniac@intrex.com
And email me, then I can give you my phone number and we can be in touch about the support group and other fibro and Christian groups and dtuff, being as were practically neighbors, I feel like we ought to be in touch. My last post where I met you, I got so much help from Kim. The post before me. She is helping me to get free meds. I can help you too. Email me and I'll give you my Phone #.
