    Hi,

Can't believe I'm initiating this, since I'm so new.

Got a call from my doctor's office and the specialist who saw me wants my doctor to see me about my weight. While I admit I'm too thin, by about 15 pounds, my weight has been stable for two years. No other doctor seemed concerned, so now I'm worrying about what's wrong now. Guess I'll find out this afternoon.

In addition, a friend I went to Vegas with wrote yesterday because I had to cancel out on a dinner engagement. Just didn't feel well enough. Felt good all the time I was in Vegas and she told me that she wondered if I would have made it to dinner, if it had been to a slot machine. That hurt a lot. My husband is so upset he thinks I should just drop her from my list of friends. This isn't the first time she's made hurtful remarks.

What do you gals think? Does she just not understand?

Thanks for the nice post. Regarding your weight...please keep us posted on what your doctor says. I think that you said you had trouble gaining weight (my fibro-fog can't help me remember!). I'll send up a prayer for your appt.

About your friend...I have had friends like that. One friend dropped me completely when I could no longer ride horses, a passion that we shared. She had no interest in why (that I was sick), but I guess that I wasn't fun anymore.

I think that true friends really show up when we have this illness. Your "friend" obviously doesn't understand your illness, and may or may not come around. I understand your husband's anger. My husband, too, is very protective and tries to insulate me from people and situations that are toxic so-to-speak.

I tried with my friend to explain to her what I was going through, but it didn't help. If you would like to give your friend a chance to understand, maybe she will. But if not, I have learned to be polite to people like her, but not to spend any time with them as they are not good for me or my health.

Oh by the way, I, too, sometimes feel better when we are on vacation, so I understand why you felt better in LV. It is a fun place, and who wants to stay in your hotel room while there?

Good luck at the doctor's office today...Love, Ann

It was nice to get that off my chest and so thoughtful of you to reply. It helps to find that other people have had the same reaction.

We're just getting ready to leave for the doctor now, so will let you know what she says.

    Thanks, again.

Hi janie, bigmh & everyone. Sorry you're having trouble with your weight janie - can you email Dr A's nurse, Claudia Craig Marek, for dietary advice? I'm sure she's come accross this problem before.

As to the 'friend', I've found that we just don't have the energy for toxic people who refuse to try to understand. print her off some information about FMS/CFS & send it, then let her get in touch if she wants to. My brother & sister haven't spoken to me since 1999 because 'we'd all like to lie down all the time'. (well, I certainly don't want to - that's why I'm doing the protocol).

My legs aren't working properly today, there's always something isn't there?

    Best wishes everyone!

Friends like this used to be called, "Fair Weather Friends." They are there for the sunshine but not for the rain. They can only be counted on when things go their way. We don't need people like this in our lives. Good friends are the ones who are caring and understanding through thick and thin.

We did go to the doctor yesterday and it wasn't as bad as I feared. She explained that Dr. Adele was very concerned about my weight, so she was going to do the followup. When she looked at my chart she found that my weight has been stable for the last year. She did suggest that we consider the following tests as a precaution: Ultrasound of gallbladder, regular physical exam, mammogram, pap, labs (it's due), an upper scope of the stomach, and a CXR (whatever that is). Finally said it was to eliminate the possibility of cancer. We discussed my eating habits which my husband abhors (he's a huge eater with a fast metabolism), and she admitted that her own weren't all that different from mine.

Aside from the regular physical exam things, I would have said to scrap the rest, but hubby insists that we check everything out and since our deductible is met, it isn't going to cost us anything. The test where they put a tube down your throat doesn't sound pleasant, but she assures me I'll be sleeping.

Thanks for your support and hope you're all having a good day! Let me be there for you when you need help.

Hi Mary...I'm glad to hear the doctor's appt. wasn't too bad and I hope all of the tests go well for you. I'm always glad when they are over!

I am happy to report that I feel a bit better today! I have less pain and more energy...and just when I was getting so discouraged. I was more than ready for a respite from the pain and fatigue. So I'd better go and get something done while I can.

Hope everyone else is feeling good...have a good day. Love, Ann
